Reflection For Multimodal Project

Aubrey Saturno reflects on creating a multimodal project for their English 103 class in the form of a video. They discuss how their experience with video editing software gives them an advantage in organizing and delivering information in this format. However, developing a multimodal argument presented challenges in revising their thesis to be both educational and casual for a video. Despite difficulties, Aubrey has a clear vision for a video that is educational yet humorous to motivate analyzing other media. They conclude they learned to structure strong theses, find deeper meanings in various works, and have important conversations by offering interpretations.

Hits and Misses: A Self-Reflection

In creating this Multimodal Project, I decided to deliver it in the form of a video.

Choosing to do so displays my strength and creativity because I have experience in using video

editing softwares such as Sony Vegas Pro. Furthermore, I have created a lot of my high school

projects in the form of a video and other multimodal forms. The experience allows me to have an

upper hand in delivering information without being clueless about how I will have to organize

the information I am trying to share with my audience. However, creating this project did have

its challenges when it comes to developing a multimodal argument. Since I am aiming for a more

casual delivery, it was difficult to revise my thesis to be less formal while still being educational.

In an essay, my linguistic argument would be more formal. This video that I am doing for the

project is pretty much a visual and aural analyzation of an advertisement and my word choice

would have to switch fluidly from education to formal to casual. Despite all of these difficulties,

I still have a clear vision of how I want my project to end up. I hope to create a video that is both

educational while having bits of humor in it. I hope that those who will watch my video will be

motivated to analyze other forms of media in their lives.

Finally, moving forward from English 103, I have learned how to develop a strong thesis

that will structure my whole essay for me. I also learned that it is essential for us to find deeper

and the different meanings of songs, books, advertisements, and many more, which will
ultimately broaden our minds to what the true influence and purpose of each thing are. Lastly,

this class has taught me how I can communicate with other people around the world by creating

an argument and offering my interpretation of certain texts and topics. In having the ability to do

so, I can have important conversations with people in which we can both teach each other new

things.
