Hello Peace Lutheran!
Thank you for making my first two
months in Barrett a wonderful on-
boarding experience! It has been
wonderful to worship, learn, laugh,
and celebrate with you already this
spring. We’ve have witnessed many
milestones together for people in our
congregation. What a joy.
Part of my job as a pastor is to do just what we have done these first two months-
witness life with you and help us all pay attention to the ways the Triune God is
present with us in that life. We will certainly continue to this! Another part of my job is
to dream, vision, and wonder with you, and the leaders of our congregation, about
where God is leading us. Where is God calling Peace Lutheran into the future? What are
our values that will root us? Who is God calling us to be? Or what is God calling us to do
for our community or the world?
This type of congregational identity work excites me greatly, but we aren’t quite there
yet. Why? Because I’m still getting to know you all, and you are still getting to know
me! Any vision or work we do to invest in our future together will be strengthened by
the relationships we share with one another. This summer, my hope is to build on the
relationships that are already starting to form by spending some time together outside
of the church building! For lack of a better, cute-sy slogan, we are calling these events
“Peace Meet & Greets.” I have been working with Sandy Perry in the office and others
to begin to schedule these events. There will be several nights throughout the summer
and each night will be hosted in a Peace member’s home. The Meet & Greets will be
fellowship time and will include some kind of food, decided by the host!
Our goal for these “Meet & Greets” is for every person who is a member or calls Peace
Lutheran “home,” to be intentionally invited to an event. There are a few things we
need from you in order to make this work!
Patience- This is something new that I haven’t tried before. I think that the outcome
is worth the effort, but there will definitely be some hiccups along the way!
Grace- We might miss someone! Simply because human error does happen. Or we
might hurt feelings, which is not our intention. We are keeping track of events
and people in the Peace Office, so all questions and communication will be
facilitated between your host, Sandy, and Pastor Eliza. As the need for more
hosts arises, we are starting with a list of people who have offered or asking
people in certain geographic areas. If you want to be on the host “waiting list,”
please let the office know!
Respond to your invitation- Make sure your host knows if you are able to attend or
not – we hope that most people can make the effort to attend their Meet & Greet!
I am very hopeful about these events. I hope that they will be filled with laughter and
fun. I hope that you will meet someone new or get to know someone better. I know
that summer can be a busy time with a lot of fun commitments, I hope you choose to
include a “Peace Meet & Greet” as one of them!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Eliza
