STAND POST TYPE FIRE HYDRANT WITHOUT PUMPER CONNECTION

1.0 SCOPE

This standard lays down the requirements of type, shape, materials,


dimensions and test for vertical stand post type fire hydrant to be installed on
fire water main with an isolation valve.

2.0 CODES AND STANDARDS


- TAC Manual
- IS: 8442
- Other Government regulations / Codes
- All codes / standards mentioned elsewhere in this specification.

3.0 MATERIAL

Hydrant vertical post and hydrant arms shall be from pipe conforming to
IS: 1239 heavy grade and shall be with welded construction.

3.1 Flange shall be of M.S. plate to IS: 226 F/F, slip-on type.

3.2 Hydrant valves 75 mm size shall comply to IS: 5290 type A.

3.3 63 mm coupling shall comply to IS: 903.

3.4 Bolts and nuts for flanges shall comply to IS: 1367 clause 10.9 and 12.0
respectively while gasket 2 mm thick full face shall be made of CAF 40 to IS:
2712.

4.0 DESCRIPTION

4.1 The hydrant shall be of stand post type. The vertical post shall be of 100
mm diameter with two horizontal hydrant arms each 80 mm diameter on
which independent hydrant valve shall be fixed. Hydrant valve shall comply
to IS: 5290 type A.

4.2 63 mm coupling to hydrant valve shall comply to IS: 903 except that the lug
shall be twist release type.

4.3 All flanges for hydrant valve and base shall have drilling dimensions
conforming to ANSI B 16.5 # 150 lbs rating flat face, slip on type.

5.0 WORKMANSHIP AND FINISH

5.1 All parts shall be of good workmanship and finish. All parts and sharp edges
shall be removed. The water ways shall have smooth finish.

5.2 Wherever IS has been specified the latest edition of the same shall be
followed.

6.0 TESTING

Hydrant assembly with hydrant valves closed shall be satisfactorily tested


and proved water tight under a hydraulic pressure of 18.0 kg / cm2.

7.0 PAINTING

7.1 The stand post and its arms shall be painted with three coats of anti
corrosive fire red paint conforming to IS: 2932 from outside while internal
surface shall be painted with three coats of chlorinated rubber based resin
paint or zinc chromate paint. The paint shall conform to shade no. 536 of IS:
5 and IS: 2982.

7.2 All steel parts coming in direct contact with water shall be hot dipped
galvanized to a thickness of not less than 0.12 mm. The thickness of the
coating shall be measured as per IS: 3203. External surfaces and non-
ferrous components may be coated with lead-tin alloy by electrical deposition
process.

8.0 MARKING

8.1 Each hydrant shall be clearly and permanently marked with the

a. Manufacturer’s name or trade mark.


b. Year of manufacture
c. Purchaser’s name
d. IS: 5290 on hydrant valve

8.2 The assembly shall also be marked with the required BIS marking.

9.0 INSPECTION

Third party inspection agency at Contractor’s cost shall have access at all
reasonable times to the manufacturer’s work where hydrants are being
manufactured and / or tested.

1.0 SCOPE

its lugs shall be of gun metal complying to IS: 318 Gr. II. Chain shall be of
mild steel.

3.5 Bolts and nuts for flanges shall comply to IS: 1367 clause 10.9 and 12.0
respectively while gasket 2 mm thick full face shall be made of CAF 40 to IS:
2712.

4.0 DESCRIPTION

4.1 The hydrant shall be of stand post type. The vertical post shall be of 100
mm diameter with two horizontal hydrant arms each 80 mm diameter on
which independent hydrant valve shall be fixed. Hydrant valve shall comply
to IS: 5290 type A.

4.2 63 mm coupling to hydrant valve shall comply to IS: 903 except that the lug
shall be twist release type.

4.3 The vertical post shall have 100 mm outlet as pumper connection and
provided with a blind cap. The 100 mm outlet shall have round male threads
conforming to IS: 902 and blind up shall have round female matching
threads. The cap shall be provided with four fixing lugs and 500 mm long
M.S. chain.

4.4 All flanges for hydrant valve and base shall have drilling dimensions

5.0 WORKMANSHIP AND FINISH
