In conjunction with International Childhood Cancer Day, which is held on 15th February annually,
we were honoured to have Associate Professor Allen Yeoh from NUH and Dr David Low from
KKH who shared their inspiring journeys and contributions to advancements in Paediatric
Oncology with students from the National University of Singapore Life Sciences Society.
Associate Professor Allen Yeoh presented on the topic of “Curing Children ALL - Through Life
Sciences Research”, while Dr David Low presented on the topic of : “Frontiers of Treatment &
Research in Paediatric Brain & Solid Tumours”. Their presentations have allowed the students to

13th St. Jude-VIVA Forum (02 March 2019)
The 13th St. Jude - VIVA Forum 2019 was held from 2-3 March 2019.
The St. Jude-VIVA Forum in Paediatric Oncology (SJVF) is the combined effort between world
leader St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (Memphis, Tennessee, USA) and the Singapore-
based charity organisation VIVA Foundation for Children with Cancer. The SJVF provides
paediatric oncologists in Asia the opportunity to learn and network with world and regional
leaders, as well as to foster collaborations in order to save the lives of more children.
Over the years, SJVF has grown from a 2-day conference to an umbrella of knowledge-sharing
platforms and collaborative meetings. This year, such platforms included a 2-day VIVA-Asia Pre-
Forum Workshop held from 28 February 2019 - 1 March 2019, as well as a 1-day VIVA-Asia
Nursing Symposium held on 1 March 2019 . Collaborative meetings - known as VIVA-Asia
Working Group Meetings, also allow doctors to develop and follow-up on common treatment
protocols, with the guidance of world and regional leaders.
With some of the very best speakers in the world and region coming forward to generously share
their knowledge in order to bridge the gap between the developed and developing countries,
SJVF is increasingly being acknowledged as one of the leading paediatric oncology conferences in
the region. The annual attendance comprising scientists, doctors, nurses and allied health
professionals continues to grow and diversify.
As more scientists, doctors, nurses from all over the world come together to share and grow their
knowledge in the field of paediatric oncology, it is VIVA's hope and wish that more children with
cancer, regardless of geography, will receive better medical care and stand a high chance of cure,
survival and post-treatment quality of life.
