I. General Information

Hours: 3 Unit duration: 10 días

Specific Objectives:

The student will be able to greet people, introduce yourself, introduce others,
ask for information, and give information. They will also be able to learn how to
use ordinal and cardinal numbers properly.

Skills to Develop:
• Can make an introduction and use basic greeting and leave-taking
expressions.
• Can produce simple, mainly isolated phrases about people and places.
• Can ask and answer simple questions, initiate and respond to simple
statements in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.
• Can follow speech that is very slow and carefully articulated, with long
pauses for him/her to assimilate meaning.
• Can understand instructions addressed carefully and slowly to him/her
and follow short, simple directions.
• Can understand very short, simple texts a single phrase at a time,
picking up familiar names, words and basic phrases and rereading as
required.
• Can get an idea of the content of simpler informational material and
short, simple descriptions, especially if there is visual support.
• Can write numbers and dates, own name, nationality, address, age, date
of birth or arrival in the country, etc., such as on a hotel registration
form.

Forum Description:

After reading the material, the student will be able to participate in the
discussion forum and:

• Practice the verb to be and the correct use of it in a conversation form


in the forum.

Activities Description:

Vocabulary Practice, and Communication Practice sections. Please remember to

Homework Description:
They cover grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation and use accessible graded
texts or audio to contextualize the language point.

II. Content
Where are you from?

INTRODUCTION
We have the chance to meet people from all sorts of backgrounds. And one of
the most common questions we ask people we’ve just met is “where are you
from?” In other words, “where do you come from?”

III. Content Development


How do you answer the question? Well, we can understand it in two ways. First
it might mean where you grew up. That is: where you lived as a child.
One way you can talk about where you grew up is to say you “were raised” or
“were born” in a certain place. That might be a country, city or area of the
world.
If someone asks where you’re from, you can also just use that word “from” in
your answer. “I’m from Honduras”.
Also, if you’re talking about a country you’re from, you could just say your
nationality, such “I’m Nicaraguan”.
But the second meaning of this question is “where do you live now?” After all,
in the 21st century, many people don’t live and work in the same place they
grew up. So, one way to answer the question is simple to say “I live and work
in Choluteca” or “I’ve been in Siguatepeque for the past ten years”.

Ordinal and Cardinal Numbers


Using ordinal number words is closely tied to understanding the concepts on
which objects or events are being ordered, i.e. comparing heights, comparing
volumes, comparing times, comparing areas etc. This module will give you the
practical understanding of how to use ordinal numbers, how to spell and write
them correctly when referring to a particular order.

Ordinal numbers are used when you need to rank something or know it’s
position.

Example: Mr. Martinez came (1st) first in the race
