Hi anybody,
So I've run into this problem twice in the last four days. Two users are both running XP sp3 and up to date
versions of chrome. When they attempt to print a document the chrome print dialog comes up, but the
document never loads as a preview, and as a result you cannot click through to send it to the printer. I
haven't found a particular reason for this, and I solved it by adding a switch to disable the print preview
altogether for those users. I don't necessarily need a "better" solution than using the windows print dialog,
but I'd like to understand just why this is happening if anyone smarter than me has found the cause.
Thanks.
-Stephen

Install .Net Framework 3 or 3.5 and it will work just fine. Just had the same issue with some users.
Google is aware of the issue so hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.
Ok so I failed to give an update. Turns out Google Chrome had an update the previous week that for some
reason broke printing from Chrome. I had to go to a previous week's VM backup to see what version was
running when everything was working. There was indeed a previous version which meant chrome had an
update since then. I reported the issue through the option on the browser settings. I created multiple
reports. I'm sure my request fell on deaf's ears, but after a few days chrome had another update and BAM!
printing through chrome was working again.

Our agency utilizes Google Apps and Chrome as our default browser. If you run into this problem in 2017,
we found a solution which worked for us that we'll share on this thread in case someone else finds this issue
reoccurring for them. If you attempt to print from Chrome (or from a Google App's print icon) and don't
receive the print preview, then you may run into a bug where you need to do the following:

Check the Chrome extensions for any conflicting print extensions. Also, do you have either the Docs Viewer
or the Docs PDF Viewer installed?
Sonora
Hi Allen,
Thanks for the reply, no extensions installed at all in any of the (now three) cases that I've got, also neither
docs viewer or PDF Viewer are installed either.

I have had this problem before and uninstalled Chrome rebooted then reinstalled and it started working for
me haven't had any issues since I did that.

This is a known issue. They are working on the problem. You can either back out to Chrome version 20 or
simply disable the print preview functionality.

Thanks Jeff, like I said in the OP I already use that switch to turn off print preview, but it's good to know that
they are aware of the problem. I was mostly posting to see if anyone had any idea where the issue stems
from, and if it's just an updated chrome issue I guess I'll just have to keep an eye out for a fix. At least it
doesn't completely shut out printing capability!

Scott,
Thanks so much that did the trick! We were running older .Net Framework because of a timekeeping
program that won't function with anything newer that 2.0, but that is now a thing of the past and with the
update everything is previewing and printing like a dream!

Scott,
Some of our users are having the same issue, but the XP SP3 machines in question all have .Net Framework
3.5 SP1 installed. We are having them print from Chrome using Control+Shift+P while we wait for Google to
patch the issue.

Sean,
Hmm. I'm not sure on that one. I just installed XP from scratch today and installed all of the Windows updates
including .net 1, 2, 3, and 3.5 and Chrome's print preview work. Maybe Chrome wants .Net 3 and not 3.5.
You could also try turning off Chrome's print preview all together using a flag. This web page has a good write
up on the matter:

I just had the same issue which was solved by following scottfisher13 advice for updating .NET Framework. It
seems I had the 2 and I tried to install 4.5. I had an error something like that I have the same or newer version
and the installation could not be completed. So I decided to install the 3.5 which miraculously solved my
problem.
P.S. When I realized the problem, I restarted my pc and on rebooting I had a message that had something to do
with .NET Framawork and I clicked on cancel or continue I don't really remember. But it seems it had all to do
with my print preview issue.
My thanks goes to everybody here, to scottfisher13 off course (y) and especially to Washkevich for his
dedication to learn and understand and I quote his words "...but I'd like to understand just why this is
happening if anyone smarter than me has found the cause. Thanks. -Stephen"

I was able to uninstall chrome and reinstall it and it fixed the problem for me
