STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF
FLEXIBLE ANGLE STRUCTURE
3. Design Standard
Wind load calculation : IS 875 Part 3-1987.
Design of Members : IS 8147:1976

5. STAAD Geometry:
Dead Load:
Weight of single solar panel = 27.0 kg
Force due to one Solar Panel = 27.00x10
= 270 N or say 0.27 kN
Force per meter on purlins = 0.270/(2x0.992)
= 0.136 kN/m
Wind Load:
Wind Speed at the site = 50 m/s
Probability factor(k1) = 0.90 [Table 1 of IS 875.]
Terrain, height and size factor(k2) = 1.07 [Section 5.3.2 of IS 875]
Topography factor(k3) = 1.00
Design wind speed (Vz) = Vbxk1xk2xk3
= 50x0.9x1.1x1.0
= 48 m/s
2
Wind pressure intensity(Pz) = 0.6(Vz)
= 1.39 kN/ Sq.m
Pressure Coefficients
For Calculating the force on the panels from the pressure calculated above we need
pressure coefficients. The current structure falls under mono-slope roofs. Please refer
section 6.2.2, Table 7.
The Pressure coefficients for a mono slope free roof of 12 Deg
0.92 When wind is trying to push the structure
1.48 When wind is trying to lift the structure
Force per meter Calculation:
Total downward force due to wind on each module = 0.9x1.39x1.960x0.992
= 2.48 kN
Force on the purlins normal to the plane of the
module = 2.48/(2x0.99)
= 1.25 kN/m
Equivalent Stress

Design of Purlin Sections:
Since the purlin is subjected to bending & shear. Purlin section is checked for combined bending & shear as per IS 8147, Cl.

(N/mm2) Compressive stress
Maximum Values -145.822 199.432 9.256 ISA 60x60x5

Tension Case feq = 148.442 N/mm2 216.9 N/mm2 0.684
Hence the provided 41x41x2.6 Strut channel section is safe in design
Design of Column:

Hence the provided 41x41x2.6 Strut channel section is safe in design
Conclusion:
Hence, from all the above the design check calculation the sections are safe in the design.
