Chemical Bonding

Chemical bonds are the attractive forces between atoms that allow for the formation of stable molecules. There are three main types of bonds: electrovalent bonds form between metallic and nonmetallic elements and involve the transfer of electrons to attain full valence shells like inert gases, creating positively charged cations and negatively charged anions; covalent bonds; and coordinate bonds. Electrovalent bonds specifically occur when metals with low ionization potentials transfer valence electrons to nonmetals with higher electron affinities.
