Abstract
The scope of this paper is to outline a Professional Development plan covering the next 5
years, including artifacts that contribute to growing as a teacher/coach. I will present current and
potential training that I have or shall undergo which contribute to developing as a professional
As times change, so must education. Teachers and coaches should have an intrinsic
motivation to want to get better in their craft. Those teachers and coaches that do actively
participate in trainings and clinics can stay relevant to the 21st century student. As a high school
PE/Weight training teacher and varsity football/track coach I have a strong work ethic toward
improving in these areas. The artifacts chosen are a map of where I have had training and plan on
My 5 year plan is rather hectic in that I have a desire to move multiple times within the
next 5 years. In order to make sense of this I must outline the last decade of activity. I restarted
conductor/engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 5 years before I became a victim of the
Great Recession. I also began coaching football at Mt. San Jacinto College in 2010 and had only
planned to coach college football at a University level after obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in
August of 2014. I called a friend whom I coached with at Mt. San Jacinto College for a reference
and he offered me a coaching job at my current high school where I have been since 2015; I
subbed for 2 years then got hired as an Intern at the start of the 2017-18 school year. Therefore,
after I receive my credential and Master’s Degree I plan on moving and getting a Head Coaching
position at the end of the upcoming football season. Once my daughter has graduated high
school, which will be in 3 years, I have no problems moving and attempting to coach college
football somewhere else. As a former Marine, I have no problems with moving frequently and
my family is on board; I am finally at the end of a very long journey and it may be a whirlwind.

My artifacts are a combination of training in coaching and teaching. The Glazier Clinic
logo and the LA84 logo are coaching clinics that I have attended for multiple years. Glazier
Clinics are free, large football coaching clinics where coaches from all over the country, at the
high school and college level, speak and teach other coaches in a stress free environment. I
attend the Costa Mesa Glazier Clinic but really want to go the one in Las Vegas; different venues
have different speakers. I was able to listen to Mario Cristobal last year (he is the current
University of Oregon Head Coach and I am a huge Duck fan). The LA84 logo is a clinic for
track and field as I also coach sprinters in the spring. I began coaching track for further speed
development for our football athletes but have become a bigger fan of the sport and enjoy most
aspects; weekend track meets can sometimes be inconvenient. These are the two clinics I make
sure to attend every year, I am always viewing clinics online as there are several sites dedicated
to coaching (Glazier Clinics Online has a huge cache of information in recorded sessions.
The NAPEC logo is a California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation,
and Dance event for the 48th National Adapted Physical Education Conference being held on
November 7th of 2019. As a PE/Weight training instructor I am also responsible for training all
students and need better preparation in making my program more adaptive. It should be
important to receive this type of training as full inclusion is the normal practice and teachers
As a weight training teacher and future head football coach I need to get my USA
weightlifting certification. There are 2 levels to obtain and cost $500 each so I must have enough
available capital to obtain the certification. Weight training is essential in both football and track
twitch muscle that leads to a powerful athlete capable of faster and longer strides. Obtaining a
Lastly is the American Red Cross symbol which represents the Lifeguard training that
our entire PE department will have to undergo this summer as we have just opened a brand new
pool this spring. Swimming will be incorporated into our PE curriculum this fall and we should
have aquatic sports starting the 2020-21 school year. I had to go through swim training during
