Respected Mr Dutta,

To my great delight, I am getting an opportunity to write this letter of recommendation for

Mr. John. I have known Mr. John for more than five years, being his Professor of
Macroeconomics at National Goodwell University.

Mr. John is quite simply an exceptional student. Very few students accept challenges and
John is one of them. From my observation, he is a hardworking student who asks questions if
he does not understand anything, even the intricate details.

Mr. John’s academic ability is fantastic. He presents extraordinary logical thinking abilities
and an intellectual curiosity which is distinctive from his peers. He was always an active
participant in classes who listened eagerly and never hesitated to raise questions. Being a
witness to his motivation and passion for learning, I am sure that Mr. John will continue to be
at the top of his class and continue to display exceptional academic performance in whichever
college he gets into.

Here is a sample of Editor Letter.

From,Venkat,

Date-10/1/13

To,

Mahesh,

The Editor,

24 Newspaper,

Hyderabad.

Subject: Content of newspaper articles

Dear Mr. Mahesh,

I am Venkat an ardent and regular reader of your newspaper and have been reading it for
nearly the past nine years. The main reason I am writing this letter is to say that initially, I
was very happy with the type of articles you were publishing and your selection of writers
and stories. However, of late, I believe the newspaper’s style and preference has changed. I
am writing on behalf of several other readers as well, to urge you to revert back to your
original culture and tone.

Nowadays, the supplements of your newspaper contain more advertisements for exorbitant
brands and meaningless peddling of irrelevant goods. You have also started to lay more stress
on the glamorous side of town instead of delivering the emphatic and hard-hitting stories you
were once famous for.

The main reason your newspaper got famous was because of its view of the society, you used
to publish more number of articles related to social issues which were taken care of at that
time. But now, we hardly see one or two articles in the newspaper which are related to social
issues. We think it is better if you concentrate more on social issues than publishing
commercial and useless news in the paper. As I am very fond of your newspaper I am writing
this letter. We as readers of your newspaper urge you to refocus your attention on the matters
that really matter.

Thanking you,

Venkat.

Rajeev Sharma
A Reflective Letter

Dear Mr.(your teacher)

Writing has always been an important form of expression for me. I have always had a hard
time expressing myself verbally, and I feel that writ-ing gives me a control over my words
that I can’t find anywhere else. My journal is one of the best ways I know to explore my
thoughts and decide on a course of action to take. Writing forces me to slowdown and really
consider how I feel about something.

English 201 has definitely helped me to grow as a formal writer. In high school, my English
teachers told me I had good ideas but that my writing was wordy and unfocused. I
under-stood what they were saying, but unfortunately they never explained what I should do
about my problem. This made writing a very frustrating experience for me.

In English 201, I think the most important thing I learned is that when I start writing I usually
don’t have a definite idea of where I am going. What I have found through the writing
assignments and the peer commentaries is that my main ideas are often unclear at first, but as
I got to the end of a draft they become much clearer.

In conclusion, I feel this class has been quite beneficial in my growth as a writer. I got lots of
practice in different kinds of writing. I’m planning to major in mechanical engineering, and I
know that writing will be an important part of my upcoming career, as well as in my personal
life. For my career, writing will be a tool that I will often need to get my point across. I feel
that I need to work on knowing when to put personal opin-ions into my writing and when I
should be more objective. Sometimes I get carried away by my feelings about a topic. This
class has helped me to understand different writing situations, and I think I am now better
able to see when the personal side is appropriate and when it’s not.

Sincerely,
