UCAS Personal Statement Draft: Dylan Coates for Film Production

Media has always been an important part of my life, I have studied it for 2
years at college, a year in secondary school and also some extracurricular
activities on the side, I had work experience and also some help form family
getting me into the industry, I study it because it’s just amazing what you
can create.

My particular strengths in media are editing and Preproduction, I take myself


very seriously when it comes to editing, it’s my primary feat with his type of
subject and it is always satisfying, it’s one of my primary strong suits in this
industry and I always find it a joy putting clips together, no matter how
simple the project it, Preproduction is also quite time consuming, but also a
great asset in your media, it helps govern and organise what you'll be doing,
when you'll be doing it and what you'll need. Throughout my studies I have
been very efficient with producing effective documents that have all of the
necessary information on, such as Productions schedules, scripts and also
Location information.

Studying at degree level is one of my dreams having all of this experience in


the past paired with what ill hopefully learn at a university will prepare me
for the working world, breaking into the film industry is hard, but with the
right help and resources, you can slowly dip your feet in the water, with a
degree, I feel like ill have all the knowledge I need to start of my career.

I have had work experience at many production houses and had hands on
with independent media works, for example, back in march I spent a moth at
a media house, where I helped on sets such as music videos, photo shoots
and events such as birthdays and marriages, it was an amazing experience
and it really helped me know what a proper set would be like.

My hobbies include; Editing, Filming, Socialising, communication, Model


painting and Digital Media such as video games and also I’m a very big fan of
Virtual Reality. My hobbies do tent to follow the social aspect of life, I’m a
very social person, but when I’m working, I am a very heads down person

Studying Film Production would help me get the skills needed to approach
the media industry and also help me get the jobs I need to start earning
money in said industry, it’s quite in interesting world and I think with the
right effort i can slowly but surely start earning there
