Lesson Plan in Slope of A Line
Lesson Plan in Slope of A Line
I. Objectives
1. To define a slope of a line
2. To determine the slope of a line given any two points on a line
3. To relate the slope of a line to real situation.
4. To draw the graph of a line given its slope.
III. Procedure
A. Preparation
a. Greetings
b. Attendance
c. Motivation
The teacher will show the students the picture of Mount Everest and will ask the
students to tell something about it. Mountain climbers are amazed by how steep this
mountain is when they climb up its slope.
d. Preliminary activity
B. Lesson Proper
Our friend Luis is riding his bike. He goes up two different hills. Which hill will be
harder for Luis to pedal up?
HILL #1 HILL #2
Later on, Luis is going down two hills. Which hill will he gain more speed on?
HILL #3 HILL #4
The measure of how hard it is for Luis to pedal up the hill, or how fast Luis goes down
hill is known as slope. Here is the formal definition for slope.
Slope of a line – The ratio of vertical distance and horizontal distance between two points.
Slope is the number that measures the steepness of a line.
The slope of a line is denoted by the symbol m.
SLOPE POSITIVE
The graph moves upward from left to right.
SLOPE NEGATIVE
The graph moves downward from left to right.
ZERO SLOPE
The graph of a line is horizontal.
UNDEFINED SLOPE
The graph of a line is vertical.
1. (3,5) , (-2,3)
For no. 2 and 3 examples, the teacher will call someone to solve it on the board.
2. (-2,3) , (1,-1)
3. (-2,4) , (1,-5) m = -5 - 4 = -9 = -3
1 - -2 3
IV. Exercises
The teacher will give each student an ordered pair.
Direction: Make a pair with your classmates 5 times. Pair your ordered pair to them and
find the slope using the slope formula AND draw the graph of the line.
My Ordered Pair:
1. (1,3) , (0,-1)
2. (-2,1), (3,2)
3. (5,6) , (1,3)
4. (-4,4) , (1,1)
5. (-2,3) , (1,-1)
