Brianna and Erik need a family/movie room designed for their home by October. They have two young daughters and another child on the way. The room will be used for entertaining 6-10 guests twice a month as well as daily family activities like watching movies and playing. Brianna wants a rustic style that incorporates wood, metal, and faded paint in colors like black, white, gray and teal to match the rest of the home. The $10,000 budget needs to provide comfortable seating for guests, storage for DVDs and games, and a way to display Brianna's guitar collection out of reach of the children.

Client Profile

Client(s): Brianna Jensen

Designer: Erik Jensen
Date: June 30, 2019

Occupants: Brianna is 24, her husband Erik is 26 (me), and their two
daughters Madilynne who is 4, and Rylee who is 2, with
one more girl coming in October of 2019. Brianna works as
a Registrar at Riverton Hospital ER and Erik works as a
Manager for a Software Company.

Special Considerations: NA

Lifestyle: Brianna and Erik are pretty laid-back people. Brianna

works part time and Erik works full time while going to
school. They are an active family due to having toddlers,
but casual in their living space.

Hobbies: They both love playing video games/watching movies as a

family, going on walks, riding side by sides, drawing/doing
art projects, and playing/listening to music.

Space to be designed: Family/Movie Room

Entertaining: They have friends come over, as frequently as life permits

(2-3 times per month), just to hang out, play games, and
watch movies. Every Christmas they have 6-10 people
over at their house to celebrate the holidays and 4-10
people over for the Super Bowl Party.

Daily activities for space: Watching TV/Movies, relaxing, a place for the kids to play
with toys/friends. This is also the room used for
entertaining.

Favorite colors: She loves the colors black, white, gray, and teal. These are
colors in other rooms of the house and wants this room to
match.

Room impressions: Comfortable, fun, and inviting.

Favorite wood: Mahogany (dark wood/stain).

Desired style: Rustic. They like the combination of wood, metals, and
faded paint furniture. Something that is older looking and
cozy while still being new/modern. Brianna loves the way
shiplap looks and the barn style furniture.

Items to keep: Collection of acoustic guitars, 70” TV

Budget: $10,000

Schedule: Complete by October (before the baby comes).

Problem Statement: Brianna doesn’t have a space where they can 1) entertain
guests during Christmas, Superbowl parties, or game night
and 2) where she can send the kids to play without having
to worry about things/getting broken. She has a large
collection of DVD’s/video games so there needs to be a
place to store those. She doesn’t want hard wood in this
space since there will be lots of playing, running around,
and potential toys being thrown, so carpet is preferred.
Colors of furniture, walls, decorations, etc. should match
the same colors as the rest of the house (black, white,
gray, teal). Furniture should be durable and large (6-10
people) to accommodate guests, kids, and family
movie/game night. Lastly, she wants to incorporate a
collection of guitars in the design but in a way that kids
won’t grab them.
