“Is Mathematics a discovered part of the Universe or a very human invention?” This is the
intriguing question that makes the documentary interesting from the moment it played and ended.

While watching the documentary, I came to observe things around me. From the time I browsed
the Youtube to watch the Science Documentary 2016, I realized that it involves Mathematics.
Underline with this vast World Wide Web and the Internet, there is something deep and
mysterious. That is the Mathematical rules created by the program.

The computer games which most young people play for entertainment are also invented program
with the very help of Mathematics. The sound that transmits inside my ears when watching the
documentary is caused by waves, specifically we call this Electromagnetism – waves of energy at
the speed of light. Because of these, I came to a realization that without Mathematical concepts,
there will be no technology that is existing now like what are being mentioned above.

After I finished watching, I was on my way to our apartment. I looked above and it’s already
evening but what caught my attention is the stars and the moon. I remembered that Mathematics
works so well to describe them. It tells about the time, the patterns, and also the numbers. So this
is true inspired from the book of Isaac Newton, the Principia, that a single mathematical law would
allow us to move throughout the Universe. That also wonders mathematicians, physicists, and
scientists why Mathematics is so effective and powerful and even conclude that the Universe is
written in the language of Mathematics. Because if anyone is to observe things like plants, animals,
heavenly bodies, and even humanity, Mathematics is always there. Say for example the Fibonacci
sequence seen in the number of the petals in flowers, the spiral patterns seen in fruits and
vegetables similar to galaxies and planets, human faces that show patterns, and etc.

Mathematics works so well to describe physical reality and it is our physical reality. However like
engineers and others, they only see Mathematics as merely product of the human thought.

While walking, I had observed the city, those buildings, structures, and the lights on the road. They
are also designed and created because of the inspiration given by Mathematics to engineers and
architects. But those people are undoubtingly good in Mathematics. But does an average man can
understand Mathematics? Perhaps, we can all have the primitive number sense that makes us
appreciate Math but for them who study Mathematics, they see it as a tool and useful for their
profession. Yes, the documentary confirms that an average man can understand Mathematical
concepts and somehow appreciate them.

When I was about to reach our apartment, I accidentally dropped two things, one is a key and the
other is a pen. Two different objects when dropped, they fell in same rate to the ground. There
comes what we call gravity. According to Aristotle, heavier objects fall faster but not with Galileo
Galilei, he made a profound explanation about this and debunked what Aristotle told about the
falling objects. From the video, falling objects also follow Mathematical equations.

From all of those realizations and observations, the intriguing question that I mentioned in
my beginning popped again. “Is Mathematics a discovered part of the Universe or a very human
invention?” The answer is both. People invented Mathematical concepts and discovered that it is
true in the Universe. However, this still remains the Great Math Mystery.
