Proposal Example 1

This document describes research on developing an antimicrobial film from cellulose nanocrystals extracted from jute. The objectives are to extract cellulose nanocrystals from jute fiber, create a film from the nanocrystals, add aloe vera gel to the film to create a composite with antimicrobial properties, culture bacteria, and test the composite film's ability to inhibit bacterial growth. The methodology involves extracting cellulose nanocrystals from jute using oxidation and hydrolysis, making films of varying thickness from the nanocrystals, creating a composite by adding aloe vera gel to the films, culturing bacteria, and placing the composite films on the cultured bacteria to analyze antimicrobial effects. The

Title of research:

Antimicrobial effect on cellulose nano crystal film extracted from jute

Background
Cellulose nanocrystals, a class of fascinating bio-based nanoscale materials, have received a
tremendous amount of interest both in industry and academia owing to its unique structural
features and impressive physicochemical properties such as biocompatibility,
biodegradability, renewability, low density, adaptable surface chemistry, optical
transparency, and improved mechanical properties. This nanomaterial is a promising
candidate for applications in fields such as biomedical, pharmaceuticals, electronics, barrier
films, nanocomposites, membranes, super capacitors, etc(1). This nanocrystal can be
extracted from several cellulose containing sources like cotton, jute, wood, tunicates etc.
though there are several method developed in the extraction of cellulose nanocrystals ,
extraction cellulose nanocrystals from jute by using oxidation method by one-step
ammonium persulfate hydrolysis.
Problem statement
 Making cellulose nanocrystals from cellulos.
 Testing the property of cellulose nanocrystals.
 Extracting aloe vera gel.
 Making composite of cellulose nano crystal film and aloe vera gel.
 Culturing bacteria.
 Apply the composite film over it.

Objectives:
 To make nano crystal film from the jute fibre.

 To give antimicrobial effect on nano crystal flim by using natural source containing
antimicrobial property.

 To produce a antimicrobial film which can be used for wound healing.

Methodology:

 Extraction cellulose nanocrystals from jute using oxidation method by one-step

ammonium persulfate hydrolysis.
 Making the film from this cellulose nanocrystal by drying it in Petri Dishes in
different thickness.
 Extracting aloe vera gel from aloe vera leaf and blend it and immerse CNCs film in it
for making composite.
 Culture the bacteria in Biotechnology lab .
 Place the composite film in the bacteria cultured trays and check its antimicrobial
property.
Time schedule

Process Time Required

Extraction of CNCs 6 Days
Film of CNCs 5 days
Composite of aloe vera gel and CNCs film 2 Days
Culture of bacteria 3 Days
Testing 4 Days
