Information and
Communication
Technology
1.1 Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

- deals with the use of different communication and technologies :

mobile phones,

telephone,

Internet, etc.,

- to locate, save, and edit information.

1.1.1 ICT in the Philippines

• “The Selfiest Cities around the World”

- research conducted by Time Magazine in 2013

- Two cities from the philippines places top 1 and top 10

● 106.8 cellphone per 100 Filipinos in year 2012 – according to the 2013
edition of Measuring the Information Society by Telecommunication
Union.

Web 2.0,
Web 3.0
World Wide Web

● The World Wide Web (WWW) id an

information space where documents and
other web resources are identified by URLs,
interlinked by hypertext links, and can be
accessed via the internet.

● Invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.

Web 1.0 (static web page)
- without interactivity
- static (flat page or stationary page)
- cannot be manipulate by the user
Web 2.0 (dynamic web page)
- websites that contains dynamic content

Ex.

Social Networking sites, Blogs, Wikis, Video sharing sites, Hosted

services and Web applications

- Allow users to interact

- Be able to comment
- Create a user account
- File storage

Web 2.0 – a term coined by Darcy DiNucci on January 1999.

Features of Web 2.0
Example:
1. Folksonomy – allows users to
categorize and classify/arrange
information using freely chosen
keywords.
- Popular networking sites use tags
that start with the pound sign (#) or
hashtag.

1. Rich Use Or Experience -

content is dynamic and is
responsive to user’s input,
Features of Web 2.0

3. User Participation
- means that those who view the websites
can also put their own information.

- can comment, review, evaluate and

participate in a poll.

4. Long Tail - offer services on demand

as opposed to purchasing them.
Features of Web 2.0

Google Apps
5. Software as a Service –
users will subscribe to a software only
when needed rather than purchasing
them.
Microsoft 365

6. Mass Participation - deals with

diverse information sharing through
universal access.
Web 3.0 and Semantic Web
Web 3.0
- Aims to improve on Web 2.0 by adding user-specific content through user
preferences.
- a concept of the World Wide Web that is designed to cater to the individual.
- can be likened to an artificial intelligence assistant that understands its user
and personalizes everything.

Semantic Web

- A movement led by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

- A component for Web 3.0
Problems with Web 3.0

1. Compatibility. HTML files and current browsers could not support

Web 3.0.
2. Security. The user’s security is also in question since the machine is
saving his or her preferences.
3. Vastness. The World Wide Web already contain billions of web.
4. Vagueness. Certain words are imprecise. The words “old” and “small”
would depend on the user.
5. Logic. Since machines use logic, there are certain limitations for a
computer to be able to predict what the user is referring to at a given
time.
Trends in ICT
1. Convergence
- a synergy of technological advancement to work on a similar goal
or task.
- two unrelated technologies that converge on a single device.

MP3 Player Smartphone Camera
