Government

Government - Organization that people set up to protect the community and make rules

What does the government do :

• Protects the community

• Makes laws

• Keeps orders

Why do we need a government :

• Protection of people

• Making of rules

• Enforcing the laws

Different types of governments :

• Democracy

• Monarchy

• Dictatorship

• Theocracy

Democracy - The government is elected by the people. Everyone eligible to vote, has their own
say of who runs the country.

There are 2 types of democracy :

• Direct Democracy - Each and every person directly votes on every issue themselves. This
type of democracy is only practical in small communities.

• Representative Democracy - People are represented by elected officials. It is used in large


communities and is also known as Republic Government

Monarchy - Power is in the hands of the king, queen, emperor or empress and the ruling
position is passed on to the ruler’s heirs. In traditional monarchy, the entire power is in the hand
of the monarch. In a constitutional monarchy, like the U.K, has democratic government that
limits the power of the monarch.

Dictatorship - The country is ruled by a single leader who has not been elected and May Use
force to keep his control. In a military dictatorship, the army has the full control of the country.

Theocracy - Government rulers are identical with the leaders of the dominant religion and are
strongly influenced by the principles of the major religion followed. The government claims that
they rule on behalf of god or a high power in religion.
