Liaison Officer - PONGO Alliance

We are looking for an organized, analytical and forward-thinking Liaison Officer with
exceptional communication and problem-solving skills to join the PONGO Alliance team.

PONGO Alliance (www.pongoalliance.org) is a partnership of visionary oil palm growers and


conservation practitioners. PONGO Alliance is not an NGO, consultancy or service provider.
Rather, PONGO Alliance uses the accumulated skills of its cross disciplinary partners and highly
experienced and specifically skilled staff to collaboratively assist industry in achieving their
mandated sustainability goals by “making resilient landscapes for wildlife and people a reality”
across Borneo and Sumatra in both Malaysia and Indonesia. Initial ground operations began in
April 2019 in the Kinabatangan region of Eastern Sabah.

This job will be based in Kota Kinabalu but some travel will be required between field operations throughout the state.

The Liaison Officer will provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support, and serve as a point of contact and link
between collaborating agencies and other external parties. This work requires flexible, dynamic and diplomatic
collaboration with multiple agencies from field operations in rural areas to executive offices of business, NGOs and
government departments as well as media and educational outreach outlets.

To succeed in this role, you should be committed to providing attentive support for internal and external parties and
ensuring consistent, efficient operations. You should be courteous, but proactive, and a team player.

The Liaison Officer reports to the Kinabatangan Project Director and Executive Director of PONGO Alliance. Additionally,
this work requires collaboration with Administration and Finance staff of Borneo Rhino Alliance (BORA), a PONGO Alliance
partner.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Supporting PONGO Alliance team members by facilitating internal communications and
interactions between internal and external parties.
• Handling basic office duties, such as answering and routing communications, responding to emails, maintaining
employee, expenditure records, data entry and compiling information to produce reports, and other general
administrative support as required by the Project and Executive Director.
• Ensuring that the PONGO Alliance administrative records are well-maintained, organized, and secure.
• Assisting on special projects, such as educational outreach and capacity building
• Answering questions and finding information for team members and external enquirers.
• Managing a dynamic integrated website and social media presence as directed by the Project and Executive
Directors.
• Ensuring implementation of policies and practices outlined by the Project and Executive Directors.
• Coordinate PONGO Alliance records and schedule with administration and finance staff from BORA as needed.

• Strong task and time management skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
• Proficiency with office technology and equipment and software.
• Creativity and strong problem-solving skills.
• Solid presentation skills with website design and graphics skills a bonus.
• Basic math skills and understanding of basic accounting skills.
• A positive attitude and an ability to work with all types of people from rural to urban backgrounds is required.
• Knowledge of the oil palm industry and/or wildlife conservation would be useful.

Salary range: RM2,500 – RM4,500


Start date: somewhat flexible but between 1 July - 1 August 2019
