Water and Sewer Inspection Checklist

General
_____ Application and fees paid in full.
_____ Contractor Name and Certification # ________________________________________________
_____ Owner is aware that they are responsible for locating underground utilities .
Alberta One Call (1-800-242-3447)

_____ Owner is aware that they are responsible for flushing all piping system connections prior to
connecting any mechanical device which may be damaged by debris from construction.

_____ Owner is aware that they are responsible for repair of trench settlement and tie-in locations within
1 year of connection.

_____ Ground cover must be a minimum of 2.75 meters and provisions made for frost protection if
ground cover depth is not deep enough.

_____ Water service pipe size minimum ¾”, Type K copper, Kitec or municipal tubing.
_____ All underground connections are brass compression fittings.
_____ Service tie-ins to be inspected before any backfilling.
_____ Trenching and backfilling completed in conformance with OH&S.

Water Trickle System


_____ Gate or Ball Valve before water meter.
_____ Flush service and test. Turbidity _____ Chlorine _____ppm.
_____ Water meter installed.
_____ Wiring installed for MXU by owner.
_____ MXU installed.
_____ 2.0 GPM Flow Restrictor

_____ Meter chamber installed a minimum of 2 meters from driveway.


_____ Meter chamber installed a minimum of 1.5 meters inside of property.
_____ Meter chamber installed on concrete block and backfilled with gravel bedding.
_____ Brass fittings connected to service lines to meter chambers.
_____ Cistern’s float switch made of brass, bronze, or stainless steel.
_____ Connections to cistern inspected before back-filling.

Water Full Pressure System

_____ Gate of Ball Valve before water meter


_____ Flush service and test. Turbidity ____ Chlorine ______ppm.
_____ Water meter installed.
_____ Wiring Installed for MXU by owner.
_____ MXU installed.

Low Pressure Sewer System


_____ Owner signed inspection report indicating that Lac La Biche County will not be held liable in
case of damage incurred on private property in the event of a sewage backup.
_____ Tank minimum size – 1000 gallons.
_____ Pump installed in two compartment tank or separate pump chamber to pump effluent only.
_____ Pump discharge line minimum diameter of 1.5 inches.
_____ Pump discharge line is SDR 09, SDR 11 HDPE Municipal tubing or Series 160 Polyethylene.
_____ Connections at property line is brass compression fitting.
_____ Connection between service line and pump piping is brass compression fitting.
_____ Connection between service line and pump piping is brass compression fitting.
_____ Orenco Effluent Pump Package installed according to specifications.
_____ Bio-tube pump vault is at proper height (clear zone) in tank.
_____ Vault resting on top of tank.
_____ Vault suspended by cables.
_____ Vault resting on tank bottom.

_____ Prevent runoff intrusion.
_____ Tank sealed watertight and all connections into tank made watertight and gastight.
_____ Splice block installed properly with seal if used.
_____ Pump and Discharge assembly installed properly.
_____ Discharge assembly cross bar is 18” from manhole cover.
_____ Floats at correct height.
_____ Check valves installed in proper position.
_____ Backflow preventer check valve at pump discharge.
_____ Insulation and heat tape as required to prevent freezing.
_____ No drainage or any other water than sanitary wastewater allowed to enter tank.

Gravity Sewer System


_____ Sewer piping and fitting are ABS or PVC from building drain to property line.
_____ Maintain minimum grade as per pipe size.
_____ All elbows are 22 ½ or 45’s, no 90’s
_____ Owner signed inspection report indicating that Lac La Biche County will not be held liable in
case of damage incurred on private property in the event of a sewage backup.
_____ Recommended to owner to install an approved backflow preventer on the building sewer drain for
either pressure system or gravity.
It is the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain all water and sewer equipment and piping
from their installation to the property connections. This includes ground settlement, line
blockage and frost protection. Lac La Biche County will not be held liable for any damages
incurred on private property. Lac La Biche County will not be responsible for the failure of
fittings that have been supplied.
