1.1 INTRODUCTION

“An organization is a social unit which is deliberately constructed and reconstructed to


seek specific goals”. It is a social unit of people, systematically structured and managed
to meet a need or to pursue collective goals on a continuing basis. Organizations are open
system in that they affect and are affected by the environment beyond their boundaries.

Organizational study is “the examination of how individuals construct organizational


structures, processes, and practices and how these, in turn, shape social relations and
create institutions that ultimately influence people”. An organizational study
encompasses the study of organizations from multiple viewpoints, methods, & level of
analysis. Organizational study involves the study of the structure and functioning of
various departments in an organization.

An organization is a planned coordination of number of people and their activities for the
achievement of some specific goals through division of work and hierarchy of authority.
An organizational study involves the study of structure and functioning of various
departments in an organization. Almost all the organizations are different but they have
some common features. All are collection of people linked together by formal and
informal relationships. They have hierarchical orders that are engaged in corporative
activities and they all have identical boundaries. Whenever people interact in
organizations, many factors come into play. Modern organizational study attempt to
understand and model these factors. In organization study, the different roles, namely,
interpersonal roles, decisional roles and informational roles of various member benefits
are evaluated and how it affects the functioning of the organization is analyzed. The study
was carried out at GTN Textiles LTD, Aluva. This study is based on the different aspects
and dimensions of different departments of the company.

1.2 NEED OF THE STUDY

The organizational study at GTN Textiles is conducted to make an overall study of the
organizational framework and the various functions and interdependence of various
departments. The main aim of the study is to reduce the gap between theoretical
knowledge and practical knowledge.

1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY


• To analyses the industry and company profile with an overview of the
strengths, weaknesses and threats of the company.
• To critically examine the organizational structure of the company.
• To get in touch with the industrial and organizational environment.
• To identify the importance of quality, policies, and measures to be
followed.
• To find out the difference between the theoretical aspect& practical
aspect of running a business.
• To understand how information is used in organization for decision
making at various levels.

1.4 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The present study is based on both primary and secondary data.

PRIMARY DATA
 Personal Interviews with employees.
 Interaction with management.

SECONDARY DATA

Secondary data required for the study were gathered from other sources and are already
available in the firm’s internal. It includes

● Record & publications

● Company prospectus

● Company website

● Books, magazines & newspapers

1.5 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY


 An in-depth analysis on the functional activities of various departments was not
possible because of time constraint.
 The reliability of data used for study largely depends upon the companies reports
and the information given by the executives.
 The busy schedule of the department heads and constrains regarding entry to
various departments restricted collection of detailed information.
