To qualify for a drinking water or wastewater license, applicants need a certain amount of experience operating facilities in their field; applicants with only a high school diploma can substitute up to half their required experience with training certificates or experience in the other field (water or wastewater); and completing 10 hours of approved training counts as 1 month of operating experience.

Drinking Water and Wastewater Experience Requirements

**Note: Applicants with only a high school diploma or GED may use DEP-approved training
certificates or experience in the opposite field (water or wastewater) to substitute up to 50% of the
total experience required. Successful completion of 10 hours of DEP-approved water or
wastewater training is equivalent to 1 month of operating experience. The remaining 50% of the
total experience must be fulfilled with work experience.
