…………………..

Scope of the Work:

The scope of this work is to carry out the complete operation and maintenance issues, prepare Report
with recommended actions to be perform. The study shall study the operations procedures which is
being adopted considering the following aspects
Tripping schedules, including why and how tripping occurs and what can be done to
minimize.
The compliance of preventive and regular maintenance schedule since operation and its
effect.
Technology of the versions of the replaced part
Operational records since Testing and commissioning
Operational and maintenance manuals from the designers and manufacturer
Learning and preparation of framework from past practice of the same plant
Planning for procurements of the spare parts
Trainings for Operation and Maintenance team
Environmental aspects of Operation.
The study shall study and identify the maintenance requirements and recommend the following five
types of maintenance required for particular components or plant.
Preventive Maintenance
Reliability centered Maintenance
Predictive Maintenance
Proactive Maintenance
Reactive Maintenance
The scope of the works is listed below:

Type of maintenance: The study should indicate the type of Maintenance required for the
particular components like Civil, Hydro Mechanical or Electromechanical indicating particular
actions to be required.

Maintenance of Civil components:

The study should indicate the current situation, issues in structures and required maintenances of the
following Civil components.
Weir, Intake and Undersluice
Check for the surrounding protection works, areas of cracks, settlements and instabilities and suggest
for the maintenance required.
Reservoir sedimentations and deficit in the storage volume in storage and PRoR projects.
Condition of Weir, Intake and Undersluice concrete, erosions and deterioration due to high velocity of
water, cracks and failures if any
Check for the scoring depth after the Stilling Basin and condition of Stilling Basin.
Check for the leakages from Intake, Undersluice and Weir portions.
Confirm the landslides protection or river diversions actions required.
Lists of tasks need to be done which the consultant can suggest:
1. Quartz coating in Ogee surface of the Weir
2. Repair the Gates concrete
3. Protection of sliding of ripraps during rainy seasons
4. Repair the concrete at Undersluice, Downstream Aprons and cutoffs.
5. Removal of Sediments and boulders from Intake area.
6. Gabion Protection woks for River Protection
7. Backfilling of Settled area
8. Painting

Approach canal, gravel Trap

Check for the scoring of the approach canal lining and for the deposition of sediments in approach
canal.
Check for the leakages and cracks in the structures
List of the tasks need to be done which the consultant can suggest:
1. Coating on the canal surface
2. Preparation of rainwater canal for minimizing the debris in power canal during monsoon.
3. Removal of sediments form the canal
4. Sealing the leakages if any.

Aqueducts/ Crossings:
Check for the cracks in the structures
Check for the condition of Foundation settlements, scoring of foundation materials and calculate if the
scoring depth is within permissible limit or not.
Check for the debris and poundage in the aqueduct and its effects.
Desanding Basin and Forebay
Check for the surrounding protection works, areas of cracks, settlements and instabilities and suggest
for the maintenance required.
Check for the leakages and cracks in the structures
Check for the efficiency of Desanding Basin and its functions.
Determine the Sediment concentration of the river, compare with the designed sediment value
adopted.
Headrace
If the headrace is Pipe option then,
Check for the surrounding protection works, areas of cracks, settlements and instabilities and suggest
for the maintenance required.
Identify the critical zones in the headrace alignment from landslides.
Check for the positions and cracks of structures.
If the headrace is Tunnel options then,
Check for the squeezing of Tunnel by visual inspection
Check for the condition of lining and function of Silt Trap
Check for the sediment deposit in the length of Headrace Tunnel.
Study the Tunnel filling and Emptying procedure adopted by the Employer and suggest for revisions
if any.
Check for the concrete linings in the Tunnel especially in the vertical joints of Shutters, joints between
side wall and Inverts and in Cold joints. Suggest for the options of Lining by Patching Reinforced
concrete, Plain/Fiber shotcrete or Concrete.
Study the growth of organic matters in the Tunnel and suggest for the requirements of bituminous
coating.
Surge Tank/shaft
Check for the leakages and cracks in the structures
Check for the functioning of surge tank
Steel Penstock Pipe
Check the whole penstock alignment and identify the critical zones from landslides, identify the
cracks in the civil structures within the penstock alignment and suggest for the appropriate
maintenance procedure.
Be sure about the stability of slopes in the penstock alignment and suggest for required slope stability
measures required if any.
Check for the surrounding protection works, areas of cracks, settlements and instabilities and suggest
for the maintenance required.
Vertical Shaft
Usually the vertical or inclined shaft will be lined with thin steel. Check for the buckling of steel
linings due to external pressure during dewatering.
Check the voids between the steel lining and back concrete by Tap Hammer and suggest for the
grouting if required to fill the voids.

Powerhouse
Check for the surrounding protection works, areas of cracks, settlements and instabilities and suggest
