2m X 2m Culvert-With Fill - 0.6 M. Fill-Height

The document provides a detailed design for a culvert box structure. It analyzes the structure for various load cases according to design codes, including dead loads, earth pressures, live loads from vehicles. Finite element analysis software is used to model the structure. Load calculations are presented for earth pressures, live loads from a 70R track vehicle. The design considers specifications for materials and provides dimensions for the box structure.

INTRODUCTION

A detailed design for the CULVERT has been presented in this design note. The
box structure has been designed for a max total height of 2.45 m for 0.6m earth fill on top without skew.

The structure has been analysed for the load cases as per clause 202.3 of Annex B of IRC:6-2014 .
The design value obtained by using appropriate combination as per clause 202.3.7 of Annex B such as:

In the above, DL comprises of the load due to self-weight,
crash barriers and wearing coats. Two cases of earth pressure(EP) in active and passive states have
been considered. Effect of temperature on the box has been evaluated both along the length and
across the depth. The follwing vehicles have been considered for the case of live load.

1 70 R track vehicle
2 40 t boggie load
3 2 Nos 40 t boggie load placed centrally
4 2 lanes of class-A

A unit width of the box has been considered for the purpose of analysis. It has been modeled in
STAAD Pro. as a plain frame supported on vertical springs, a representation of the stiffness of the soil.

The design note has been presented in the following sequence:
