LP Chapter 3 Lesson 1.1 Probability and Non-Probability Sampling

This document outlines a lesson plan on probability and non-probability sampling. It defines the objectives of defining random sampling and giving reasons for sampling. The subject matter will cover probability and non-probability sampling through reference materials and a laptop. Learners will participate in an activity where they draw numbers with and without replacement from a bowl to understand the differences between probability and non-probability sampling. They will then define random sampling, identify the two types of sampling, and discuss the reasons why sampling is done. Evaluation involves defining random sampling, identifying which sampling method was used in different situations, and listing the reasons for sampling. The lesson concludes with assigning advance study of parameter and statistics.

1. Define random sampling. (M11/12SP-IIId-2)
Subtask:
Give reason for sampling

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

1. Topic: Probability and Non-probability Sampling.
2. Reference: CG, Statistics Books
3. Materials: Laptop, Chalk

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Routine Activities

1.3 Checking of Attendance
1.4 Energizer

2. Review
- Areas under a Standard Normal Distribution.

3. Motivation/Presentation of Lesson
-What is a Survey?

B. Development of Lesson
1. Activity
- Provide learners a bowl or a glass containing numbers from 1 up to 10
and ask them to draw 5 numbers with and without replacement

2. Analysis
- What does drawing 5 numbers with replacement resembled?
- What does drawing 5 numbers without replacement resembled?

3. Abstract/Generalization
- How is probability sampling different from a non-probability
sampling?
-
4. Application
- What is random sampling?
- What are the reasons why we do sampling?
- What are the two types of sampling?
IV. EVALUATION:
A. Define
What is random sampling?

B. Identify which sampling method is applied in the following situations.

1. The teacher randomly selects 20 boys and 15 girls from a batch of learners to
be members of a group that will go to a field trip.

2. A sample of 10 mice are selected at random from a set of 40 mice to test the
effect of a certain medicine.

3. The people in a certain seminar are all members of two of five groups are
asked what they think about the president.

4. A barangay health worker asks every four house in the village for the ages of
the children living in those households.

5. A sales clerk for a brand of clothing asks people who comes up to her whether
they own a piece of article from her brand.

6. A psychologist asks his patient, who suffers from depression, whether he

knows other people with the same condition, so he can include them in his study

7. A brand manager of a toothpaste asks ten dentists that have clinic closest to
his office whether they use a particular brand of toothpaste.

C. What are the reasons for sampling?
