GENERATOR STANDARD OPERATING


PROCEDURE (SOP)
Functions before Start the Engine:
1. Check whether the generator base is wet with diesel or lube oil. Keep the
surroundings clean. Keep the dust out of the exterior with dry cloth. Don’t allow
water in the generator area.
2. Open the door windows for adequate ventilation, turn on the exhaust fan
3. Check whether there is sufficient amount of diesel, engine oil and radiator cooling
water.
4. Check viscosity of the Mobil/Lube oil with gauge stick and change if required.
5. Clean the rust / carbon in the battery terminals, check whether the battery's label is
OK.
6. Check whether the battery has the rated voltage.
7. Check if there is any leakage in diesel pipes, water pipes and Mobil lines.
8. Remove any blockage in engine exhaust line and check the safety device lamp.
9. After check the above point start the generator with the specific generator operator.

Functions after Start the Engine:


1. Observe the sound of the engine. If found any abnormal sound then find the source,
If need keep the engine off.
2. Check whether all meters in the control panel are normal, Lube oil, diesel pressure,
voltage, frequency label are ok.
3. After specific time (one hour), Write the engine load, temperature and all other
parameter in register book.

Functions when the engine is stopped:


1. Slowly reduce the load of the engine, stop the engine after running 2-3 minutes
without loading the engine.
2. Turn off the engine by pressing the specific power off switch, in case of the self-
start generator, in the absence of specific operators, the generator's main switch
should keep closed.

Schedule of maintenance of filters:


1. Regular air filter clean with air.
2. Change the air, water and oil filter for 250 hours or per year.

Caution:
1. Always monitor the load on the generator, and load should not more than 80% of
total capacity.
2. No combustible substance can be kept around the generator.
3. Smoking, lighter, combustible substances cannot be carried around the engine.
4. Make sure that the water does not enter in any condition.
5. Except for an approved person, entrance of anyone else has to be blocked.
6. Hang on to the danger signboard.
7. If any unusual thing is observed then stop the engine and inform the responsible
section in-charge.

Generator Maintenance Guidelines:


 Regular check level and oil topping of generator engines.
 Check Radiator's water level regular basis.
 Check the battery water level and voltage.
 Observe whether the air indicator is OK or Not.
 Inspect engine temperature and other parameters during engine run and register
in log book.

Be careful while working to avoid any accidents and work according to the prescribed
rules.
