I retrieved this source from Sinclair’s scholarly database, Credo Reference. It’s an article

from The World History Encyclopedia, written by Andrea Alfred. Throughout the article, the

author explains the causes of overpopulation. She lists that the population growth considers both

intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The intrinsic factors relate to humans as biological organisms;

whereas, the extrinsic factors are the environments factors such as climatic changes and events.

The author purpose is to educate her audience throughout the article. This article is from

an encyclopedia, which is a book set out to give information on many subjects and provide

summaries of knowledge for many aspects of one subject to another.

I know this source is credible based on the source of this article itself and where I

retrieved the article. It was also published in 2011, so the information and source is current. It

has no bias’ throughout the article because it is sampled from an encyclopedia.

I will use this source as a way to better articulate my stance throughout my paper by

focusing on this author’s thesis. She explains that climatic changes and events can directly have

an impact on population growth itself. People who live in a better climate and environment are

more likely to reproduce than if they were to live in a worsening one. This is because beneficial

climates can decrease mortality. The author explains that climatic changes can be the ultimate

reasoning behind the population growth.

The author, Dragoş Grigorescu, describes the problem of overpopulation and the way in

which antinatalism can be a solution to this problem. I retrieved this article from Sinclair’s

scholarly database, EBSCOhost. It was published in December of 2018. The main thesis of this

source is to educate the audience on why overpopulation is such a problem and how we can

reverse this problem. It lists education and the use of contraceptives as ways to prevent the

population from further growth.

The author’s purpose throughout this article is to better educate his audience as well as

report that David Benatar's antinatalism is a possible solution our problem. The article was

strictly informative as it is cited from academic journal, Jus et civitas.

I know this author is credible and the source is reliable for many reasons. The author’s

passage is from an academic journal and cites his sources at the end of his piece. He cites many

well-known universities regarding his research. I found the article from a scholarly database as

well. It was published just last year so I know that it is current information.

I will use this source as a way to better articulate my stance throughout my paper by

focusing on the author’s main points as it relates to my research question. I can use his

information by answering my research question because he explains why overpopulation is such

a danger to us and how we may be able to control it. By the way he explains how to control

overpopulation, are the ways why overpopulation are a problem. We need to better educate the

people which is why we are overpopulated. We need to focus on contraceptives and sexual

education for its importance is not met. He explains the dangers of overpopulation; that with

overcrowdedness, we lack important human qualities. We lack appreciated gifts such as

compassion, mercy, empathy, morality, etc.

Hartmann, Thom. Threshold: The Crisis of Western Culture. The Penguin Group, 2009.

The author, Thom Hartmann, bestselling author of nineteen books, of this informative

book shares many reasons behind the population explosion. He compares the relationship

between technological advancements and population growth to explain that when the amount of

people in this world was higher than the amount of food, population was constant. People were

busy working to ensure we had food to eat and without food, caused anger in many people,

which caused wars. Once people worked hard enough and the amount of food was coinciding

with the amount of people, population began to grow again.

The author’s purpose throughout the book is to inform his readers and to educate them.

This book was published in 2009 when population growth was noticeably becoming an issue. It’s

a nonfiction read and he supports his arguments with research throughout the book.

The author has wrote many books, of which have been spotlighted on NPR, CNN, the

BBC, and Wall Street Journal. He also has won the Project Censored Award four times and is

one of America’s Top Ten-rated talk radio hosts. He is also a former advertising industry CEO. I

know he is credible and cites many sources throughout and at the end of his book.

I will use this source as a way to better articulate my stance throughout my paper by

focusing on the author’s main points regarding population as it relates to my research question.

He explains why population growth is such an issue and what caused it. He supports this by

sharing that the education of women is very important, for they will be able to choose how many

children they would want with a better education and more options. In many countries the lack of

birth control, abortions, and sexual education become a major aspect to the increase in

population. Promoting girls and women’s education is just as important as reducing birth rates in

the long run as promoting contraceptives and family planning.

The author, Carolyn Kinder, member of the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute, of this

article writes a dedicated piece educating people about overpopulation. Throughout the article

she explains how overpopulation is having more people on this earth than what it can handle

while maintaining a healthy and fit place to enjoy, but most importantly she explains the causes

of overpopulation. The main reason behind the population in our world is the combination

between high birth rates and low death rates due to better education and medical practices.

The writer of the articles purpose is to better educate her audience. As a member of the

Teachers Institute, her goal is to enlighten students and the younger generation about this major

issue growing throughout this earth.

I know this author is credible because of her purpose throughout the piece and

occupation. She lists many credible sources she used throughout her piece at the end of her

article. This article is also very current, published in 2018.

I will use this source as a way to better articulate my stance throughout my paper by

focusing on this author’s thesis. She answers my questions by explaining the impacts of

overpopulation. The reason the death rates are lower now than ever before is because people

have easier access to nutrition, food, and safer water. This is because the food distribution

productions has invented more sophisticated machinery and techniques. Among with better

inventions in the food industry, the rise of new medicines lowered the rate of any diseases that

occurred throughout many countries.

The author, Bill Marsh, a graphics editor for the Sunday Review. After 14 years with The

Philadelphia Inquirer, he joined The Times in 2001, working on the Science desk and later for

the Week in Review, writes a compelling and informative article on overpopulation. His piece

compares and contrasts the growth rates and global population increase with much research and

demonstrates this comparison through the use of graphs and charts. This article was published on

the website in June of 2017 so the author’s facts and data are current.

The purpose of the author’s article is to inform his readers that catastrophe regarding

overpopulation in many countries. He wants to raise awareness to his subscribers of The New

York Times that the problem of population growth is going to continue to be a major issue in

many countries if it is not put under control. He explains that some countries now are unable to

cope with the soaring births and many of which are underfed.

The author, Bill Marsh, is a reliable source for my paper. He has been in editor for The

New York Times since 2001. The New York Times is an American newspaper which holds

many with worldwide influence. This newspaper has won many prizes, more than any other

newspaper. This article in particular, was published under two years ago so it is very recent to

use it’s research as support in my paper.

I will use this source as a way to better articulate my stance throughout my paper by

focusing on this author’s comparisons regarding many countries populations. I will use this to

support my claim that overpopulation has been an ongoing issue since the 1960s. It also supports

that fast-rising populations result with many human consequences. It also depicts the comparison

between population and most impoverished countries to support that developing countries are in

need of help in order to control the population growth.

from The Hutchinson Encyclopedia, edited by Helicon in 2018. It emphasis on the meaning

behind population and how to retrieve population data based on the census of sex, age,

nationality, occupation, etc. This article also explains many reasons behind why developing

nations have caused this earth’s population to soar; whereas, developed nations haven’t had as

much of an impact on the population growth. It explains that developing nations don’t have as

easy access as developed countries do to birth control, sex education and contraceptives. This

causes the birth rates to increase.

The author’s purpose is to educate its audience. This article is from an encyclopedia,

which is a book set out to give information on many subjects and provide summaries of

The author, Peter Singer, of this article which was published in 2018 provides main

reasons behind the growth of population and its effects. He refers to Paul Ehrlich’s bestseller

“The Population Bomb”, a book written fifty years ago with many predictions regarding

overpopulation. His main points include that, “many feminists and population stabilization

advocates now agree that providing reproductive health services to women is first and foremost a

right in itself, as well as the best and most ethical way to slow population growth”.

The author’s purpose is to raise awareness for the crisis of overpopulation. He explains

throughout the article that recognition of the world’s population growth needs to be imperative.

This means an increase in overall women’s reproductive health which will then lower the

likelihood that developing countries will have to go through strict and severe population

programs.

The author, Peter Singer, is a Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University. His books

include "One World Now" and "Ethics in the Real World." I know this source is credible it is

Every claim the author makes, he backs up with research and sources throughout the

article.

I will use this source to better articulate my writing throughout my paper because it

does provide information I can use to answer my question. The author makes claims that I

can support throughout my paper. He explains that the main issue behind overpopulation is

the lack of education regarding women’s reproductive health. One reason why population

is growing exponentially is we are not focusing on making contraceptives more readily

available for women throughout the world. Sometimes women need emergency

contraceptives as well and these are just as equally important the author points out. The

lack of women’s options to take control of their fertility is a major factor to overpopulation.
