Buckling Analysis
I. Definition and Purpose
The buckling analysis is used to predict the critical load at which buckling failure can
occur.
The global buckling factor is the factor with which the loads in a load combination
should be multiplied to obtain global buckling in the structure.
Critical load for global buckling = buckling factor αcr * current loads
αcr<1: the current loading is more than the critical loading, and therefore the
structure will fail (collapse) as a whole with the current loads.
αcr >1: the current loading is less than the critical loading, and therefore the
structure will NOT fail (collapse) as a whole with the current loads.
*However,
Etabs 2016 software will be employed to analysis and generate the results of this
buckling analysis.

Case 1: Without P-delta
No P-delta is considered
The least buckling factor which cause the global buckling failure is αcr =3.121
This means that this load combination: 3.121 DL+ 3.121LL is called critical load. When
this critical load is applied to the structure, the whole structure will collapse due to
buckling.
The least buckling factor which cause the global buckling failure is αcr =2.381
This means that this load combination: 2.381DL+ 2.381LL is called critical load.
When this critical load is applied to the structure, the whole structure will collapse
due to buckling.
