DemocracyWhatWhy Ch2

Democracy is a system of government where people have the authority to choose their governing legislators through free and fair elections. However, 3 key factors are needed to have a true democracy: 1) Elected representatives must have the real power to govern and make decisions, 2) Citizens must be able to vote freely without coercion in genuine elections, and 3) Equal rights and protections must be afforded to all under the rule of law as outlined in the constitution. Without all three of these, a system cannot accurately be considered a true democracy.
