ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I bow my head with reverence to Almighty that has showered the blessings on me to get

through the whole task of my Ph.D. thesis and brought it to a logical end. The course of this

thesis is also the journey of my life and I wish to thank all those who helped not only in my

work, but also influenced my life in a holistic way. Most of all it was my teachers. We think of

the effective teachers we have had over the years with a sense of recognition, but those who have

touched our humanity we remember with a deep sense of gratitude. .

At the outset, I wish to thank and express my profound gratitude, indebtedness and

appreciation to my esteemed mentor, my supervisor Dr. Shiv Kumar Sarin, Professor& Head,

Department of Hepatology, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, for guiding me patiently

through all these years and giving his valuable guidance, perceptive encouragement and

indispensable suggestions. It is rightly said that you cannot teach a person anything, you can

only help him find it within himself. He was the beacon who inspired me to look for the right

answers. He gives of himself to his students, giving a much deeper meaning to the system of

teaching and I have learnt much from him in all these years. He is a mentor par excellence and I

am indeed fortunate and honored to have been his student. I could not have imagined having a

better advisor and guide for me. Thank you so much Sir.

I find myself short of words in expressing my sincere thanks to my co-supervisor Dr. Nirupma

Trehanpati, Associate Professor, Department of Research, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences

for her immense help and warm co-operation in accomplishing my thesis work and all other

details pertaining to it. I would like to warmly acknowledge Nirupma Mam for her incredible

guidance and input to walk me through this work. From the beginning of my scientific career,
she encouraged and instilled confidence in me. She always went out of the way to teach me each

and every aspect of life and make me independent, true, honest and strongly devoted to achieve

my goal. The supervision and support that she gave truly help the progression and smoothness of

my work. I have really no words to thank you Mam. Your valuable contributions will always be

treasured.

With a sense of regard and reverence I take this opportunity to express my deep sense of

gratitude to Dr. S.S. Trivedi, Professor and Head and Dr. Sharda Patra, Associate Professor,

Department of Gynecology, Lady Hardinge Hospital who have played an important role in

completion of my work for helping in sample collection.

I wish to thank Dr. Ayub Qadiri from National Institute of Immunology for his valuable

comments and suggestions as an advisory committee member.

I would like to especially thank Mohini Mam and Shashi Mam for their valuable contribution.

Without their dedication and sincere efforts my work was impossible. My sincere thank also

goes to Meena Mam and Raj Sir for their selfless help. .

I gratefully acknowledge the financial support from Indian Council of Medical Research for the

award of Senior Research fellowship to help me sail through.

I am short of words to express my gratitude to my best friend Arshi for her love, care,

inexhaustible help and for the stimulating discussions, for the sleepless nights we were working

together before deadlines, and for all the fun we have had in the lab and hostel.

It gives me immense pleasure to thank Dr. Syed Hissar and Dr. Sukriti for their elderly love and

guidance in science.
My vote of thanks goes to my collegues and friends Nidhi, Sadaf, Jassi, Manish, Dinesh, Dr.

Sanal, Dr. Abhishek, Dr. Chandana, Dr. Anupama, Santosh, Preeti Rawal, Ashish, Preeti, Bijoya,

Smriti, Swati, Ritu, Aditi and Binayak for their cooperation.

I am also thankful to all my friends who helped me directly or indirectly during my thesis work.

I also wish to thank our technical executives Arun, Virendra and Satish for their contribution and

also to Sandeep Bhaiya from IT department, who always helped me whenever needed. Many

times my computer crashed and Sandeep Bhaiya was always there to help me out of the way to

retrieve my valuable data. I wish to thank O.P Ji and J.P. bhaiya for their help.

I wish to express gratitude to my elder sister Shefali and my Jiju Vikram Shrivastava for their

affectionate support and eternal motivation.

Last but not the least, I wish to express gratitude to my Mother and Father for their love, care,

unflinching support and trust on me, and the wordless help that has always come my way.

Today, what I am is just because of them, I am really thankful to Almighty that has helped me to

fulfill the dream of my parents.

How can I forget to thank my Parent in laws and my husband Dr. Shashwat who came in the

final and crucial phase of thesis writing for their trust, motivation and of course patience. I

especially appreciate Shashwat for his scientific suggestions and fixing and reminding deadlines

to finish my thesis writing part. I am thankful to God for bringing them in my life.
