Form 4 Chapter 1: Functions

The document discusses composite functions. A composite function is the result of applying two or more functions together. It is denoted as gf, which means applying function g after applying function f. Some examples show calculating composite functions given the individual functions f and g. The key points are: 1) A composite function is the result of applying two or more functions together, with the output of one function becoming the input of the next. 2) It is denoted as gf, meaning apply function g after applying function f. 3) Several examples demonstrate calculating composite functions given the definitions of f and g.

FORM 4

Chapter 1: Functions
1.3: Composite Functions

In the diagram, the function f maps set X onto set Y and the function g maps set Y onto Z.
If set X is mapped directly onto set Z, the mapping is the composition of functions f and g.
The composite function is written as gf
This means that the mapping under f is carried out first, followed by the mapping under the
function g.
