Textbook: HMH Georgia Science

Course Description Earth Science is primarily the study of our planet, Earth. We will explore the composition of the
Earth, how it is constantly changing, and the forces that cause these changes. We will examine the Solar System and
the dynamic processes of Earth’s interior, surface, oceans, atmosphere, and the hydrosphere. Students will discover
and explain the cause Earth’s seasons and moon cycle, the formation of tides and currents, and how heat transfers.

Daily Class Requirements-
➢ Students must have 2 composition notebooks for the year.
➢ Students must have at least 2 pencils/pens each day.
➢ Glue sticks, colored pencils for the notebook.
➢ The agenda must be used for recording homework and as a hall pass every day.
Tutorial Help- Available after/before school.
Conduct Grades- The following are the standards for determining conduct grades throughout the school.

S Satisfactory Consistently follows school rules and does not interfere with the learning of others.

Needs
N Causes minor class disruptions. Only requires verbal warnings to correct misbehaviors.
Improvement

Consistently causes classroom disruptions that interfere with the learning of others. Generally
U Unsatisfactory
does not correct misbehaviors even after warnings.

Make-Up Procedure for Absence or Suspension- Students will be given the number of days absent plus one day to
make up classwork. Students must check the absent folder to retrieve their missing work on their own. Suspension
assignments will be ready for pick-up at the main office no later than one day after the suspension.

Hallway Procedures- Students will be not be allowed to leave the room during the first 15 minutes of class and the
last 15 minutes of class. They will need to have their agenda signed by a professor to leave the room. Locker breaks
take place during homeroom and between 4th and 5th period. No students can leave the classroom after 4:00 pm
until professors/administration dismisses them to leave.

Homework- Students can expect to have science homework on a weekly basis in order to practice study skills and
build vocabulary knowledge. Class work can become homework if it is not finished in class. Homework can be
expected over school breaks.

Discipline- Students are expected to adhere to the rules and policies of Lindley Sixth Grade Academy and Cobb
County as stated in the student agenda. Consequences for not following the rules and policies include, but are not
limited to: a one on one warning/conversation, self -reflection sheet teacher, detention in AM or PM, class isolation,
and administrative referral.
Below are a few classroom expectations:
1. Be respectful to your classmates and professors.
2. Be prepared and on time to class each day.
3. Be interactive and willing to participate and learn- try your best.
4. Be a hard worker and always strive to improve in the classroom.
5. Be a good listener and follow instructions.

Note- This syllabus is a general outline of the earth science course and is subject to modification.
