Pragmatic Functions of Social Media Jargon Used by Junior and Senior High School Students

This thesis proposal examines the pragmatic functions of social media jargon used by junior and senior high school students in the Philippines. The study aims to identify common social media jargons used, analyze their pragmatic functions, and describe the profile of students using different jargons. It will employ a survey questionnaire to gather data on learner profiles and their social media usage. Statistical analysis will then determine relationships between learner profiles and pragmatic functions of identified jargons. The researcher hopes to contribute to the understanding of evolving language practices among Filipino youth in the digital age.
