Learning Activity in Science 10 Group 1

This document outlines a learning activity for students in Earth and Space Science 10 on identifying the boundaries between tectonic plates. The activity aims to help students: 1) Describe the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and major mountain belts. 2) Determine the scientific basis for dividing the lithospheric plates. The class will be divided into three groups, each with different questions to answer based on figures of earthquake and volcano data. They will present their answers and be graded using a rubric. The activity focuses on using earthquake epicenter locations to understand crustal plate movements.

Learning Activity in Science 10 (Earth and Space)

Name: Date:

Section:

“Let’s identify the boundaries”

Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of the relationship among the locations of volcanoes,
earthquake epicenters and mountain Ranges.
Objectives

1. Describe the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and major mountain belts.
2. Determine the scientific basis for dividing the Lithospheric plates.

Introduction

Determining the location of earthquake epicenters plays a vital role in laying the foundations of
plate tectonics. Let us see how early geologists used the plotted positions of earthquake epicenters
throughout the world in conceptualizing crustal movements.

Instruction

1. The class will be divided into 3 group.

2. Each group has a different set of questions to answer in 10 minutes. They will base their answers
based on the Figures indicated in their activity sheet.
3. Each group will transfer their answer in the Manila Paper and present their work in the class. They
have 3 minutes each to present their work. Their presentation will be graded based on Rubrics
Posted on the board.

Group 1

Question:

Earthquake Map of the World

Answer the following question

1. How are earthquakes distributed on the map?

2. Where are they located?

3. Why there are certain areas has no earthquakes?

4. Why is it important for us to identify the areas which are prone to earthquakes?
