Semi Detailed Lesson Plan Idioms

This lesson plan aims to teach students about idiomatic expressions. The objectives are for students to identify meanings of idioms, familiarize with commonly used idioms, and use idioms correctly. I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of this lesson the students will be able to;

1. Identify appropriate meaning of idiomatic expressions.

2. Familiarize with commonly used idiomatic expressions.

3. Use idiomatic expressions correctly

B.1 Motivation:

The teacher will show pictures of

Idiomatic expression
 Are phrases which people use in
everyday language which do not
make sense literally, but we
understand what they mean?
 It is an expression that cannot be
defined from the meanings of its
words but has a separate
meaning of its own.

Teacher will ask some example to the


students that they know.

Teacher show some example of


idiomatic expression sentences. And let
the students read the following
sentences and analyze the underlined
sentences.

1. He tells his girlfriend that he loves


her, but he never actually does
anything nice for her. Someone (students will read and

Now that you know the meaning of


idiomatic expressions, can you tell me
the advantages and dis-advantages of
using it in a simple conversation? And
later on we will do a dyad activity about
the given sentences.

 There is heavy downpour
2. The weather snowed under
 Having too much thing to do (students give their ideas)

 Something that will never happen

B.5 Generalization:

The teacher will give a short review of


what they have learn from the topic.

The teacher ask the students to form a


group in three groups, allotted 5 minutes
to prepare. To give at least two
examples of idiomatic expression, and
give their meanings to the class.

B.6 Enrichment Activity :

The teacher ask the students to stay on


their group for another group activity.

Draw from the given examples of


idiomatic expressions and use it in the
following conversation. For 5 minutes to
prepare and 2 minutes for presentation.

Group 1- Telephone conversation


Group 2- Meeting old friends
Group 3- Family get together

IV. Evaluation:

Read the following sentences and fill in


the blanks with the correct idioms
through analyzing the given meaning.
Individual in ½ crosswise sheet of paper.
