Plans Data Analysis Using Statistics and Hypothesis Testing

This document discusses plans for data analysis using statistics and hypothesis testing. It explains that data analysis involves evaluating data using logical reasoning to examine each component and form conclusions. A data analysis plan provides a roadmap for organizing and analyzing survey data. The document also describes how hypothesis testing involves making assumptions about population parameters and using statistical tests to reject the null hypothesis, which assumes no effect or difference, in favor of the alternative hypothesis, which shows a real effect is present.

PLANS DATA ANALYSIS USING STATISTICS AND HYPOTHESIS TESTING

Data Analysis

The process of evaluating data using analytical and logical reasoning to examine each
component of the data provided. This form of analysis is just one of the many steps that must
be completed when conducting a research experiment. Data from various sources is gathered,
reviewed, and then analyzed to form some sort of finding or conclusion.

A data analysis plan is a roadmap for how you're going to organize and analyze your survey
data.

Hypothesis testing was introduced by Ronald Fisher, Jerzy Neyman, Karl Pearson and Pearson’s
son, Egon Pearson. Hypothesis testing is a statistical method that is used in making statistical
decisions using experimental data. Hypothesis Testing is basically an assumption that we make
about the population parameter.

Statistical Hypothesis Testing

The formal statistical procedure for performing a hypothesis test is to state two hypotheses and
to use an appropriate statistical test to reject one of the hypotheses and therefore accept (or fail
to reject) the other.

The first hypothesis is usually referred to as the Null hypothesis is a statistical hypothesis that
assumes that the observation is due to a chance factor. It is the hypothesis of no effect or no
difference between the populations of interest. It is usually given the symbol H0.

The second hypothesis is usually called the Alternative Hypothesis by statisticians, but since it is
often the hypothesis that the researcher would like to be true, it is sometimes referred to as the
Study Hypothesis or Research Hypothesis. Contrary to the null hypothesis, the alternative
hypothesis shows that observations are the result of a real effect.
