I. Objective
Round numbers to the nearest thousands and ten thousands

II. Subject Matter:


A. Topic: Rounding numbers to the nearest thousands and ten
thousands
B. Reference: CGM4NS-Ib.5.2, Mathematics 4
C. Materials: flashcards, designed SIM, activity sheets, assessment
sheet
III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Review: Using flashcards call pupils to round numbers to the
nearest tens and nearest hundreds.
2. Motivation: show a picture of a crowd of people watching
basketball game. Ask pupils to describe what they see in the
picture.
Ask: Can you tell the exact number of people in the game?
Say: “Sometimes there is no need for us to give exact number.
Instead we just approximate/ estimate how many people or
things there are.”
B. Developmental Activities:
1. Presentation: The election count for SPG candidate is almost
over. Chloe Ross, one of the candidates, is leading the election.
She got a vote of 3600 and Jian, her opponent, got 3320 votes.
By about how many more votes did Chloe Ross have than Jian?
How will you solve the problem?
2. Discussion:
Using the number line, to what number is it closer? 3 000 or
4 000? Discuss how to round it down and to round it up.
3. Activity Proper:
a. Setting of standards in group activity/ pair/individual
b. Distribution of activity sheet
c. Perform the activity 1,2 and 3
4. Analysis: What have you learned in the activity 1,2 and 3?
5. Generalization: What are the rules to follow in rounding number?
IV. Evaluation: Answer the Assessment card. Read carefully the
instructions.
V. Assignment: Answer the enrichment card. Read carefully the
instructions given.
