"Excavating The Abyss, Pulsing The Current".: Initiating The Chain Reaction of Knowledge

The speaker thanks the introducer and attendees. They discuss feeling nervous to speak publicly. The event theme is about sustaining the Earth. The speaker asks if one's heart is beating and whose heartbeat one feels. Like humans, Earth has a heartbeat that depends on us taking care of it through discovery, addressing climate change causes like carbon dioxide emissions, and stewardship of youth. Research shows ways to reduce climate change impacts. The speaker urges students to listen, understand, and apply lessons to participate in community and environmentally conscious actions. They wish for ability to change past decisions but note only human actions can improve the future through changes like reducing waste and planting trees.

Introduction:

Thank you so much sir, for that generous and maka liver-spread (bukad-atay)
introduction.. To our ever dynamic district supervisor, Dr. Vilma Taguibulosan, our very active
principal, Madame Marichu Hongcuay, mighty teachers and staff, ever supportive parents,
dear students, ladies and gentlemen good AFTERNOON! ^___^

To be honest, after I received an invitation to be your guest speaker of today’s event, I

can hardly sleep these past nights, for one my big fears has finally arrived and that is to speak in
front of a lot of people that’s why even today, kulba my heart-kurog my feet. But this is such a
great opportunity to share something and inspire these young people in front of me. So please,
alayun kog kuhit sa inyung tapad. Friend, unya ra ta mag chika, maminaw sa ta.

This day marks the culmination of our celebration on Science and Math month with the
theme EARTHBEAT: “ Excavating the Abyss, Pulsing the current, Steering the Youth as Stewards
of Sustainable Development”. Wow, what a very nice theme. This theme is not just a padugang
sa patapot sa stage. But, behind this theme, lies a message, which calls for action from every
person living in this only planet, our very own earth. What could it be, well.

BODY

First let me ask this question. Is your seatmate’s heart still beating? E check daw b. very
good. Next question. Or shall I say, may nagpapatibok
ba sa puso mo ngayon? If there is, it could be your family or it could be your special someone.
I, You, All of us have a beating heart. The world where we are standing right now, our Earth also
has a heartbeat, pero hindi tulad natin na kayang alagaan ang pagtibok ng puso. The Earth’s
heartbeat depends on US.
Taking care of the earth is taking care of ourselves. How? We need to know
more of our own Earth.

“Excavating the Abyss, Pulsing the Current”. Means venturing into the unknown and
initiating the chain reaction of knowledge. We still have a lot of things to discover of our very
own Earth. That is why we need to dig more. There are discoveries that are detrimental to the
world and are affecting the pulse of the Earth.
The Earth’s pulse today, is not normal
anymore. Why, if you have heard over the radio, or watched on the television, read on the
newspapers or social media the Global warming which causes the so called Climate change
which in turn according research had caused those deadly calamities like powerful typhoons,
earthquakes, landslides, and storm surges, the earth indeed is not the same as before. I know
that you are all familiar with the term climate change, elementary palang ko, hot na kaayo ni
nga issue but until now, it is still one of the hottest issues. But thanks to research, we became
more aware, we found answers to all our why’s to all the how’s, the solution to our problems.

Let me share to you, some important findings in research. Because of research we have
found ways on how to mitigate or paglessen sa effect sa climate change, say for example.
Studies have shown that the major cause of climate change is the increase of Carbon dioxide sa
atmosphere.
And with that findings, unsa man
diay ang dapat nato buhaton. If maghisgot ta about sa mga sakyanan, naa naman jd na sila, but
it is encourage na if duol lang imu adtuon, mas maayo if maglakaw ka, or magbike,
mga plastics, and mga lata nga dahon, e reuse nato ang plastics, that’s why I really appreciate
that you have trashionshow, kay instead ilabay lang ni nagamit ninyu in a creative way. Mu adto
dagkong tanom and epadecompose because it will serve as a good fertilizer.
KANGKONG for Phytoremediation is the direct use of living green plants for in situ, or in place,
removal, degradation, or containment of contaminants in soils, sludges, sediments, surface
water and groundwater. So we need to be aware, and apply what we’ve learned and make this a
solution that would help the community.

Lastly “Steering the youth as stewards of development.” This is one of the greatest
responsibilities of a teacher in this 21st century. But, bisan pag mangugat nag tinudlo si teacher or
mutambling pa si teacher ug inexplain ninyu, if you will not listen and value what you’ve learned,
development would never be achieved.. Therefore it is in your hands where we rely on the future of our
world.
Don’t just simply read, read with understanding and apply what you’ve learned. Take part on
participating community services, act like scientists, educate yourselves with the current happenings in
the environment and to always look forward to a brighter future. As young as you are now, be wise
and responsible of your duties, for the next generation is dependent on what you leave them with, so
I say don’t leave them with a dying place to stay but leave this world better than you found it.

My dear students. I wish we could turn back the time and change the decisions we had made
that caused the destruction of the present generation. I wish changing the devastated image of our
environment is as easy as changing our profile pictures in facebook. I wish eliminating the wastes, bad
habits and practices of mankind and traumas experienced by families on whatever calamities they had
gone through is as easy as deleting our selfies by pressing delete all in our phones. I wish growing or
bringing back many trees in our surroundings is as fast as growing the crops in the famous FB app,
Farmville. But it is not. It is never easy. There will be no iron man coming with super technological fix
to save the Earth, or Dr Strange that will use the infinity stone to go back in time and start a new
one, or Dora that will explore the world for solutions, or Avengers that will help you. There were only
be US, you, the youth, the teachers, parents, everybody living in this planet! We may not have the
power to stop calamities but have the power to change the destructive activities of humanity.
