THE NSBE NEWS

THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS' MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

A MESSAGE FROM THE

PRESIDENT
Hi everyone, welcome back! I hope you all had a great summer.
We’re excited for another school year of academic excellence, CONTENTS
professional success, and positive community impact. I have faith that
we will achieve success on both the individual and chapter level, and 2018-2019 Recap - 2

Pitt NSBE is here to support you along the way. This year our vision is Meet the Executive Board - 3
Achieving More for Less. With that expectation in our minds as we set Announcements - 4
out for the year, we’d like to welcome any ideas from all members on Calendar of Events - 5
how to make this year better. Some of the opportunities you can look
forward to this semester include meeting alumni during our Annual
Homecoming Mixer; securing the bag at our Fall Regional Conference
here in Pittsburgh; and doing workshops with our partners such as
Google, Exxon and BASF. Should you find yourself with any questions,
comments, concerns, or ideas for us to better serve you, don’t hesitate
to let me or the executive board know. You can reach me by emailing
[email protected].  I am looking forward to this year of
excellence with you all! Yours Truly,
Janet Canady
PRESIDENT, 2019-2020

2018-2019 RECAP
What a year we had! We were nominated for
National Medium Chapter of the Year for all the
right reasons. Besides the fact that we hosted the
region's Fall End Zone Summit, we also had three
scholarship winners at 2019 National Convention
and raised nearly $900 for the family of Antwon
Rose and $600 for Tree of Life shooting victims.
We established partnerships with 6 corporations
(including Google!), collaborated with 7 Pitt
organizations, and participated in 8 community
engagement events. On top of all that, we
hosted over 850 guests at our Annual BBQ and
had 130 unique general body meeting
attendees. We can't wait to make this school year
an even better one!
