long project on-budget and ahead of schedule. You, as the project manager, have
been offered a promotion due to this great success. The final product has been
transitioned into production and post-implementation support requirements have been
completed. As part of project closure, what would be done NEXT?
Create project closure documents
Release project team
Update Organizational Process Assets
Validate Scope
Justification: Project closure documents would be completed next, before the
project team is released, and before other Organizational Process Assets are
updated.
Option 2: Releasing project team members should be one of the last activities in
the Close Project or Phase process. You may need them to help with the closure
activities.
Option 1: Strong matrix organizational structure is not essential for good project
integration management. Other organization structures, including projectized,
balanced matrix, etc., can also provide successful project integration management.
Option 3: Project selection techniques are used for project selection in initial
stages of the project. However, they are not essential for project integration
management.
Option 4: Projects may have positive and negative stakeholders, but the type of
stakeholders will not affect successful project integration management.
Question: A new project manager has been appointed to manage a project which was
terminated six months earlier because of funding related issues. The project
manager wants to find out the exact reasons for the termination of the project. He
also wants to know which deliverables were produced from the terminated project.
Which of the following document(s) should the project manager refer to?
Final product, service, or result transition
Project files
Historical information
Project closure documents
Justification: If the project was terminated prior to completion, the formal
documentation indicates why the project was terminated and formalizes the
procedures for the transfer of the finished and unfinished deliverables of the
cancelled project to others.
Question: Your customer wants some change to be effected in the project scope. You
determine that the change in scope will not impact the project schedules but will
cost the project an additional $50,000. What should you do FIRST?
Try crashing or fast tracking the project.
Do not allow the customer to change the project scope.
Let the customer know about the impact of the change in project scope and ask for
additional funding.
Discuss with your project sponsor.
Justification: The different steps that should be followed when a change is
requested are as follows:
a) Evaluate the impact of the change within the team.
b) Be proactive. If the change can have negative impact on the project, try to
influence the factors that cause change, so that only approved changes are
implemented.
c) Communicate the impact of the change to the project sponsor and the customer.
d) Take the project through the change control process by getting approval from the
project customer, project sponsor, and other stakeholders. Also, please note that
additional funding is always provided by the project sponsor (not the project
customer), and that changes are usually approved or rejected by the change control
board.
e) Get adequate resources required to implement the change.
f) Implement the changes.
Please note that you have completed the first step, i.e. you have evaluated the
impact of the change.
