Sotto Files Bill Vs 'Fake News', Disinformation: Priority Bills
- "Filipinos have fallen prey to believing most of the click-baits, made up quotes attributed to prominent
figures and digitally altered photos. This bill seeks to protect the public from the adverse effects of false
and deceiving content online," Sotto said in a statement.
Senate Bill No. 9 seeks to impose penalties of up to P2 million or imprisonment for violators.
- Senate President Vicente Sotto III has filed a bill that would penalize the spread of false information in
websites and social media platforms.
- Persons found guilty of using a fictitious online acount or website in creating or publishing false
information, meanwhile, may face imprisonment and/or a fine of not more than P500,000, or both.
- Sotto also said the bill seeks to promote responsible use of the internet.
- Those who offered their services or expertise to create or publish false information may also be
imprisoned and/or fined, or both.
- Under the bill, anyone found guilty of knowingly creating or publishing false information shall be
punished with imprisonment and/or a fine of not more than P300,000, or both.
- The quake struck at 8:16 a.m. Sunday, 29 kilometers northwest of Burgos town.
- The tremor followed a magnitude 5.8 quake that left 51 people injured in Surigao del Sur early Saturday.
- Sunday's quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 25 kilometers, according to Phivolcs.
- "Nagiikot po ako at tinatanong yung residente kung naramdaman ba nila at kung may pinsala. Wala
naman po, sa awa ng Diyos," she told radio DZMM.
- A magnitude 4.5 earthquake rocked Surigao del Norte on Sunday morning, Phivolcs said, a day after a
strong quake injured 51 in neighboring Surigao del Sur.
- Sancina Sulapas, a local disaster official of Burgos town, said no injuries and damages have been
reported so far.
- The tremor was not expected to cause any damage and aftershock.

- Ang pag-ayos ng mga lineman sa bayan ng San Nicolas ay para ilipat ang mga poste ng kuryente ng
INEC para sa road-widening project ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
- Ayon sa pulisya, inaalam pa nila kung nagkaroon ng lapses sa pamunuan ng Ilocos Norte Electric
Cooperative (INEC).
