THE SIMPSONS

The Simpsons are a popular cartoon family. They are yellow, ugly, and have
big bulging 1 eyes. The Simpsons represent the typical middle-class American
family. The father, Homer Simpson, works in a nuclear power plant. He is
bad-tempered 2 , irresponsible and lazy 3 . He is very impulsive. He is fat and
bald 4 . He loves drinking beer and eating junk food 5 . When he is not at work,
he is at home watching TV or at Moe´s tavern with his friend Barney.

Homer is married to Marge and together they have three children. They met
at high school. Marge is a housewife. She has a big blue hairdo and always
wears a necklace 6 . She is a loving mother who takes care of the children,
the pets and Homer.

Bart is the eldest of the Simpsons children. He is ten years old. He is mischievous 7 and funny. He misbehaves at home
and at school. He is not a good student and is usually mean 8 to his sister. He worships 9 Krusty the clown, his TV hero.

Lisa is 8 years old. She is the most sensitive 10 , intelligent and talented child in the Simpsons family, but is totally
ignored by her father. Maggie is the youngest child. She is one year old and although 11 she can´t speak she is an
important character in the show.

There are other relevant characters in the show such as Ned Flanders, Apu, Marge´s sisters Selma and Pat, Chief
Wiggum and Bart´s friends.

Ned Flanders is the Simpsons´ religious neighbour. Apu is an Indian man who immigrated to Springfield and
opened a supermarket. Selma and Pat, Marge´s twin sisters, are fat, ugly and are always smoking. Chief Wiggum
is an overweight 12 and corrupt police officer.

The Simpsons was created by Matt Groening in 1987. The show has been on TV since 1989. According to the
creator of the show, ´The Simpsons´ is inspired by a combination of his family and the TV programmes he
watched when he was a child. Some of the members of the Simpsons family are named after his own family.
Groening’s father´s name was Homer, his mother´s name is Margaret and his sisters´ names are Lisa and
Maggie. Even his mother looked like Marge. She used to have an enormous beehive 13 hairdo.
