Silver Extraction From Hypo Fixer Solution

Silver can be extracted from photographic films and photochemicals using a chemical process involving sodium thiosulfate and sodium sulfide solutions. During image formation, silver transfers from the photographic film into the hypo fixer solution, forming silver thiosulfate complexes. Repeated fixing processes cause more and more silver to dissolve into the hypo solution. When the amount of dissolved silver reaches saturation, no more fixing of films can be done in such solution. This exhausted hypo solution is the basic raw material for business of extracting pure silver.
