CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

Introduction

This research aims to help farmers that have problems and difficulties in
handling pig manure in their piggery. This research will convert their
problem into a solution and help farmers to get rid of their pig manure
problems.Farmers tend to waste the use of straw (uhot in Visayan) by
burning it, little do they know that the straw has a potential to be an
effective fertilizer. The pig manure mixed with straw might be an effective
fertilizer, if it is proven to be efficient in soil fertilization then it would be a
great help. This fertilizer is renewable, biodegradable, sustainable, and
environmentally friendly. This research also helps mother nature because
this is chemical free and this is also organic which also helps mother
nature to give high quality soil. This research is helpful to everyone this is
very inexpensive and wont even contribute on harming our nature.Saving
money and the nature at the same time is a great deal.

Statement of the Problem

1.The content of pig manure mixed with straw and the efficiency of the pig
manure mixed with straw.

2.The significant difference between the experiment pig manure mixed

with straw.
Null Hypothesis

Ho1:The content of pig manure mixed with straw is not good for the plant.

Ho2:The efficiency of the Pig manure mixed with straw is not significant.

Ho3:TheSignificant difference between the pig manure mixed with straw

and the commercial fertilizer is not true.

Significance of the Study

This study is significant in terms of its direct benefit to the farmers and
piggeries who are having common problem with the disposal of straw and
the management of pig manure, the people that are fun of growing plants,
and people who are growing pigs.

Scope and Limitation

Farmers and livestock sellers can benefit to this research

The advantages of this research are they can provide nourishment to their
farm, maintain cleanliness of their farm, improve waste management,
improves the production of crops and increases the rate of organic farming
industry while this research is conducted at Lala National High School,
Maranding, Lala, Lanao del Norte. The respondent of this research
isOnion. This study is limited to the pig manure and straw only specifically
its “nutrients“ found inside. As for the specimen it’s not limited for the plant
that is malnourished. Also, additives are not present in this study for it is
purely pig manure and straw.
Conceptual Definition of Terms

* Balm - free from storm or rough activity (the wind died and the sea
became calm)

* Capable - áthe quality of beingácapable.

* Homemade - made at home.

* Extract - remove especially by effort or force.

* Curiosity - a strong desire to know or learn something.

* Panacea - a solution or remedy for all deficiencies or diseases.

* Efficiency - the state or quality of being efficient.

* Chemical - a distinct compound or substance, especially one which has

been artificially prepared or purified. Relating to or denoting the uses of
poison gas or the chemicals as weapons of war.

Organic Matters in Pig Manure At different stages of growth, judging from

weight, excretion of pig is varied accordingly. As for a pig whose weight is
60kg, feces amount is approximately 2.3kg per day, urine volume about
3.5kg. pig manure is comprised of 67% -73% water, 18-23% organic
matter, 6.54% phosphorus content of dry matter and 3.61% nitrogen
content of dry matter. But the content of potassium and magnesium is
relatively low, being about 1.5%. 80.1% dry matter manure is organic
matter, and easily degradable organic carbon is 27.3%. Hemicellulose and
cellulose are lower, fat and lignin are higher. Nutrient, which can be
absorbed by the plant in pig manure, is about 70%. Therefore, as organic
fertilizer, pig manure has high value of utilization. The whole manure
fertilizer production process can be divided into 4 parts: pig manure
fermentation process-pig manure granulation process-pig manure fertilizer
drying process-cooling and screening process.Benefits of Pig Manure
Fertilizer to Plants 1.Manure is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium
and organic matter, which is good raw material for organic fertilizer.
2.There is an organism and enzymes in pig mature fertilizer. It can
enhance the biological activity and enzymatic activity of land, increase
nutrients in soil land improve soil pH value. In this way, it is suitable for
plants. 3.Pig mature fertilizer can reduce environmental pollution. It is
harmless for human and animals, which is green and environmental
friendly fertilizer. 4.Beneficial bacteria generate a large number of
metabolites in the process of growth and reproduction, which promotes
the conversion and decomposition of organic matter. It can provide a
variety of nutrients and irritating substances for crops directly or indirectly,
which is the promotion and regulation for plant growth.Usage of Pig
Manure Fertilizer to Plants 1.It is a good choice to use pig manure fertilizer
for gardens. It helps store moisture and provides nutrients for plants
growth. 2.Many crops need the organic fertilizer. The fertilizer can
increase pest and disease resistance of plants. 3.Pig manure can be a
good fertilizer for plants. However, due to the risk of pathogens that cause
food borne illness in humans, experts do not recommend the use of pig
manure to fertilize vegetable gardens.Worldwide animal manure
management has become an urgent problem for poultry farms around the
world.Initially, local farmers used approximately one sack of inorganic
fertilizer for every one hectare of land that costs up to Php 7, 700 to
produce rice. After harvest, waste materials such as rice straws are
burned in the fields, incinerating all options for proper waste management
and zero (or even less) waste in the process of production. Increase in
expenses and low net production levels, not to mention the deficiency in
pre- and post-harvest techniques should have discouraged the local
farmers of Biliran to pursue rice production-instead, they pushed forward
and attempted to solve the problem.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Materials

This research procedurewill need half a kilo of pig manure, gloves, half
kilo of rice straw, 10 pots,10 string onionplants, soil, a mixer, water, dirty
or clean big container.

Procedure

Prepare all the needed materials, put the pig manure in the big container,
put 1L of water in the big container, put the straw in the big container with
the manure, mix the pig manure to the straw, mix until satisfied, set aside
for 5 minutes, fertilize the plants with commercial fertilizer first, lastly
fertilize the 2nd plant with the mixed pig manure and straw, repeat every
day, gather data after 1 week.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Conclusion

The researchers conclude that pig manure mixed with straw is not

efficient, compared with commercial fertilizers. After series of test and

observations we found out that the plant without pig manure is more

progressive. Therefore, the researchers conclude that pig manure mixed

with straw is not competent with commercial fertilizers

Recommendations

Recommendation 1: The researchers should put more pig manure in the

subject.

Recommendation 2: The researchers must be given more time to do more

tests and observations.
