Preliminary Challenge Application Form: Hariyana Vidya Mandir Kolkata

1. The document is a preliminary challenge application form from Hariyana Vidya Mandir school in Kolkata. 2. The proposed project is called "Best from the Waste" and aims to generate electricity from rainwater and sewage water using turbines. 3. Rainwater and sewage water would be channeled through pipes to turbines. Some water would be lifted above ground, while the waste would be left behind. Larger amounts of electricity could be generated from sewage water during monsoon season.

Project Title Best from the Waste

Problem Addressed
Rainwater and sewage water are alas! seen as something too dirty to even think about. Normally we alwys
seem to be a step away from these, but during the monsoon season in sevral cities like the one in which we
are ,one is to normally get his/her steps on to these "dirty" things. But maybe it's time that things be a little
different , those microdroplets of rain trickling down the clouds may after all do a lot,and as about the
sewage thing well even it can also perform wonders,as far to even clean it and those dirtier things in that
dirty water can help us generate power.
Proposed Solution
An average city contains some real lot of inhabitants and that in turn means a lot of wastewater. and where
theres waater, therses potential energy. At first this dirty water is diectly taken
from the drains and is channeled at a 45 degree angle through pipes which merge at a junction, three
junctions are led to one dc turbine. Several turbines are set all across a place ,after the generation a large
fraction of water i taken ab ove the ground using a lifter (its not for n ow. Then the time of the
rains come, and a whole city gets on the verge of waterlogging ,specially designed manholes which are put
on central depressions of road slopes carrybthe water to another set of pipes and junctions ,as the water
flows the waste in it is left behind .This time the water goes into much larger alternators and huge amounts
of current are realeased ,its then up to the people for what is done with this current. This time too some
amount of water is taken up the surface with the dissipator but the rest is taken to the surface using power
from the sewage turbines, while this journey this water can also be purified, and theres the icing on th cake.
And then theres the waste trapped in the manhole , the organic parts from this mess can be extracted
quite easily and be put for developing biogas energy.
