An Analysis Of Student Difficulties Understanding In

Concept Reading Compherention

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A. Backround of the study

Reading is one of four important language skills besides three other language
skills. Reading is important, and it is becoming increasingly important at the time of
growth in various aspects of life occurring so rapidly (Soenardi Djiwandono, 1996:
62). The culture of reading reflects the progress of a community or a nation. This was
confirmed by Budiyanto (Darmiyati Zuchdi, 2012: 17), who said that reading is a
major instrument of tradition that causes a nation to change. Progressive society will
always make reading an activity that needs to be met.
According to Farida Rahim (2011: 1), the value of reading in between enables
one to gain new knowledge and insights that will increase his intelligence so that they
will be better able to answer the challenges of future life. Reading makes people a
step ahead of others. In other words, the success of one's life depends on its reading
activity.
An important point to reading is the ability to grasp the meaning of literature
in a delicacy, or the ability to read comprehension. According to (Alek and Achmad,
2010: 80) Notes that reading comprehension is one of the strategies used to make an
assessment of literature by way of best interests in reading and making that analysis
Handyman. One is said to understand literature well when able to grasp the meaning
of the word used by the writer, to grasp the meaning written and implied, and to be
able to make a conclusion.
Turner (Samsu Somadayo, 2011: 10) revealed that a reader is said to
understand the reading material well when readers can: (a) getting to know the words
or sentences in literature and knowing the meaning of it, (b) linking the meaning of
the experience with the meaning in literature, (c) grasping the whole meaning
contextual, and (4) making a consideration of the value of reading.
As for factors that can affect one's ability to read one's understanding
according to Ebel (Samsu Somadayo, 2011: 28) are the students concerned, his
family, his culture and school situation. Other experts, lamb and Arnold (Farida
Rahim, 2011: 16-29) presented factors affecting reading ability to be composed of
physiological, intellectual, environmental and psychological factors (motivation,
interest, social maturity, emotion and adaptation).
Nurhadi (1995: 13) consider reading to be a complex and complex process.
This complex in the reading process involves various internal and external factors.
Daapt internal factors of intelligence, interest, attitude, talent, motivation, reading and
so on. External factors can be in the form of reading, reading text (simple, severe,
easy, difficult), environmental or social economic factors, habit and tradition of
reading.
Learning to read as a first part of a primary education must be able to graduate
with the basics of reading ability needed to further higher education. Through the
learning activities the students are expected to have reading skills.
In this case researchers will discuss “An Analysis of Student Difficulties
Understanding in Concept Reading Compherention”. Language mastery English
comprehension as a vocabulary or basic age are vital and is a solid foundation for
language mastery at the next stage.
Thinking difficulties and limitations in the cognitive field result in other
aspects of the ability used in the learning process. Those abilities call attention,
memory and ability for generalization.
Reading is not only essential for regular students only, but students also need
reading for their daily activities in the next life. In this regard, the obstacle to reading
on the students is a matter of understanding, as the academic student who suffers from
the obstacle to intellect affects the cognitive problem at hand. A lack of understanding
of reading will impede the daily activity and self-reliance of the student. Learning to
read can be a challenge for a student who is not equal to the regular student also
becomes a delay in learning process because a student is not able to follow learning
well and is less likely to be slow.
Based on the theory of the above issue, researchers are interested in
conducting a study entitled "analysis of the difficulty of learning to read
comprehension of the concept of reading"

B. Research questions
Based on the background above, some problems could be analyzed as follows.
1. Difficulty reading student comprehension is low.
2. Learning to read students who tend to be sluggish.
3. The language mastery limitations of the students are lacking.
C. Objective of the research
Based on identifying the problems that have been outlined, the study focused
on Student Difficulties Understanding In Concept Reading Compherention
D. Significance of the research
From this study it is expected to benefit some as follows:
1. Practical benefits can contribute to the development of science primarily in
education and strengthen discourse in improving the quality of child education
especially to English learning.
2. For the writer asa reference and a means for augmented insights on learning to
read for special needs students with intellectual barriers.
