Information
It refers to the knowledge obtained from reading, investigation, study or research
Communication
It is an act of transmitting messages and a process whereby information is exchanged
between individuals.
Technology
It is an application of science used to solve problems.

ICT is the technology required for information processing in particular, the use of
electronic computers, communication devices and software application to convert,
store, protect, process, transmit and retrieve information from anywhere, anytime

UNESCO defines ICT as


“the scientific, technological and engineering disciplines and the management
techniques used to handle transmit information with men and machines”.

According to the Digital video technical Glossary


“ICT is the computing and communications facilities and features that support
teaching, learning and a range of activities in education.”

The UK National Curriculum document in 2000 defines


“ICT as the technology used to handle information and aid communication”

“ICT is the use of computer based information systems and communications systems to
process, transmit, and store data and information.”

“The convergence of computers, microelectronics and communications constitute the

1. Society
Developments in ICT have provided exchanging of information anytime,
anywhere in the digital format lend by computers.
This technological convergence has brought an enormous impact in everyday
life.
2. Education
ICT based education is regarded as the “fuel of development”.
It is the essential ingredient in developing new ideas, in course content
and curriculum and in the creation of materials and methods of learning and
teaching
3. Communication
ICT plays an important role to develop the system of communication. It has
linked up the district parts of the world. The present systematic & developed
communication mediums such as telephones, mobile phones, fax, telegram, etc.
are the results of ICT.
They have decreased our time, distance and made the world closer to us.
4. Science & Mathematics
The proliferation of ICT is increasing day by day. Scientists & Mathematicians
have been able to innovate technologies such as computers, smart phones, etc.
Thus, ICT is playing a vital role in exploring and inventing new scientific
inventions.
5. Travel & Transportation
ICT plays a significant role in our transport field. It has decreased the distance
of place, saved our valuable time and established easy transporting.
We can travel hundreds of miles within a very short time, send goods
anywhere swiftly.
6. Manufacturing & Industry
New technological advances in manufacturing have helped to better meet
consumer demand.
With the implementation of computerized maintenance management
systems (CMMS), the manufacturing industry became incredibly more efficient.
7. Healthcare & Medicine
ICT has an impact on many aspects of healthcare. The most important are
the accessibility to health care services by citizens, economical aspect and quality
of care aspect.
Its main goal is to provide access for the citizen at any time and in any place.
“eHealth” can provide access especially in the regions where physicians may
not be available.
8. Government
An – ICT enabled government allows the citizens easy access to information
and services anytime and anywhere as well as create transparency and
accountability in government operations.
In addition, e-government is the use of ICT to enhance access of information
and improve delivery, efficiency and effectiveness of service to the public.
9. Economic - Structure
ICT handles the economical structure of any country nowadays. It
strengthens the economy by providing proper knowledge about the economical
advancements of the developed countries.
Thus, ICT can play an important factor for establishing a strong economy.
10. Military Force
ICT plays as a key role to strong and organized military force of any country
by providing an accurate data and information.
Military investment in robots during a decade of war is starting to impact
mainstream America, with tech giants buying into the technology and experts
predicting that machines could soon replace humans in a wide range of jobs.

◇ The country is dubbed as the ICT HUB OF ASIA because of the huge
growth of ICT related jobs, one of which is BPO (Business Process
Outsourcing)
◇ 6 years ago, the Philippines started its “Make IT Philippines” campaign
packaged the country as “E-Service Hub of Asia” through DTI
(Department of trade and Industry)

◇ According to Times’ survey last 2010, the country captured 5 slots in the
