Keep Yourself From Idols

The document discusses countering Satan's techniques that weaken Christians by keeping themselves from idols. It examines how idols like making other things or people a higher priority than God, lusting after the opposite sex, and cutting others down can undermine one's faith. Keep Yourself from Idols
 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (NASB)
For our light and momentary troubles
are achieving for us an eternal glory that
far outweighs them all. So we fix our
eyes not on what is seen, but on what is
unseen. For what is seen is temporary,
but what is unseen is eternal.

“The fact that the lifestyle of most churched adults is

 On Commitment to Christianity
 Findings: Image rather than Action

“For starters, it appears that most Americans

like the security and the identity of the label
‘Christian’ but resist the biblical
responsibilities that are associated with that
identification. For most Americans, being a
Christian is more about image than action.”

Hebrews 3:12-13 (NLT)
12 Be careful then, dear brothers and
sisters. Make sure that your own hearts
are not evil and unbelieving, turning you
away from the living God.
13 You must warn each other every day,
as long as it is called "today," so that
none of you will be deceived by sin and
hardened against God.

God’s Word

Not spending time in the Word.

 Satan’s Goal:
What devices does he use?
 Today, we don’t need God.
 Thinking in a non-eternal perspective.
By making what is wrong seem right
or OK.

 “I don’t have time.”
“I wanted to but I ran out of time.”
“I’m too tired at the end of the day.”
 “I’ll read tomorrow”
“I’ll sleep for a couple more minutes”
“I’ll watch just one more show on TV”

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and
spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the
thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

The Tongue
 James 3:4-6 (NLT)
And a tiny rudder makes a huge ship turn
wherever the pilot wants it to go, even though
the winds are strong. So also, the tongue is a
small thing, but what enormous damage it
can do. A tiny spark can set a great forest on
fire. And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is full
of wickedness that can ruin your whole life. It
can turn the entire course of your life into a
blazing flame of destruction, for it is set on fire
by gehenna itself.

Use your Tongue for Good!
Ephesians 4:29 – Let no unwholesome
word proceed from your mouth, but
only such a word as is good for
edification according to the need of the
moment, so that it will give grace to
those who hear.
Don’t give Satan an opportunity to
