Chapter 1

The Problem and its Background

Introduction

In the field of education, Tardiness of students was seen as one of the major

problems. Based on what we're witnessing in our section which is HUMSS 2A, the

student's tardiness can lead to a student's failing grade. And that, student's tardiness can

lead to the worst part of their life.

"One of the most recurring and the most frustrating problem that the schools are

having with their students nowadays is tardiness." (Sprick and Daniels, 2007).

Cristo Rey High School, located at Cristo Rey, Capas, Tarlac, is one of the

biggest High School in Capas. With approximately 6,200 students enrolled in Junior High

School, and 1,200 students in Senior High School. This school offers General Academic

Strand (GAS), Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM), Science, Technology,

Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), and

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Senior High School students.

Lauby (2009) defined tardiness as when 'people not showing up on time'. Weade

(2004) contributed by citing tardiness as being late for an amount time past the stated or

scheduled start time for school or work.

Research studies have indicated that parental support factors have significant

contribution in the development of positive self-regard that is statistically related to

academic achievement of the students (Franco and Levitt, 1998).
