Your camcorder records movies on memory cards. Do the following steps to record movies.
• This camcorder can record movies in either high definition image quality (HD) or standard definition
image quality (SD). The factory setting is high definition image quality (HD) ([REC FORMAT], p. 27).

b Notes
• When the access lamp is lit or flashing in red, your camcorder is writing data on the memory card. Do not
shake or knock your camcorder, or remove the battery pack or the AC Adaptor.
• See page 95 on the recording time of movies.
• Your camcorder can record movies for about 13 hours continuously.
• If a movie file exceeds 2 GB during recording, the camcorder divides the file and create a new file
automatically.
• The menu settings, the PICTURE PROFILE settings, and the settings made by the AUTO/MANUAL
switch are stored in your camcorder when you turn the POWER switch to OFF. The access lamp lights up
while the settings are being stored. If you remove the battery pack or the AC Adaptor before turning off
the power, the settings may return to the default settings.

• For low angle recording, the handle record button is convenient. Release the HOLD lever to enable the
handle record button. It might be helpful if you set the LCD panel face up or close it after turning it face
down, or lift the viewfinder up during the low angle recording.
• You can capture still images from the movies you recorded (p. 59).

camcorder may not be able to relay-record. To relay-record without fail, make sure that the memory card

• Seamless playback of relay-recorded movies with this camcorder is not possible.
• You can re-combine relay-recorded movies using the supplied application software (Windows only).

You can select the recording format (bit-rate, image quality, image size, frame rate, scanning
system). In the default setting, [ ] is selected.

Troubleshooting
The power does not turn on or abruptly turns off.
• Attach a charged battery pack to the camcorder (p. 17).
• Use the AC Adaptor to connect to a wall outlet (wall socket) (p. 17).

The camcorder does not operate even when the power is set to on.
• Disconnect the AC Adaptor from the wall outlet (wall socket) or remove the battery pack,
then reconnect it after about 1 minute.
• Press the RESET button (p. 112) using a sharp-pointed object.

The camcorder gets warm.


• The camcorder may get warmer while you use it. This is not a malfunction.

The CHG lamp does not light up during charging the battery pack.
• Set the POWER switch of the camcorder to OFF (CHG) (p. 17).

charged and the CHG lamp may blink slowly.

The remaining battery time indicator does not indicate the correct time.
• Ambient temperature is too high or too low, or the battery pack has not been charged enough.
This is not a malfunction.
• Fully charge the battery again. If the problem persists, the battery may be worn-out. Replace
it with a new one (p. 17, 100).
• The indicated time may not be correct in certain circumstances. For example, when you open
or close the LCD panel, it takes about 1 minute to display the correct remaining battery time.

The battery pack discharges too quickly.


• Ambient temperature is too high or low, or the battery pack has not been charged enough.
This is not a malfunction.
• Fully charge the battery again. If the problem persists, the battery may be worn-out. Replace
it with a new one (p. 17, 100).

The image remains on the LCD screen.


• This occurs if you disconnect the DC plug or remove the battery pack without turning off the
power first. This is not a malfunction.

The image in the viewfinder is not clear.


• Move the viewfinder lens adjustment lever until the image appears clearly (p. 21).

The image in the viewfinder has disappeared.


• If you set [VF POWERMODE] to [AUTO], the finder light remains off while the LCD panel
is open (p. 79).

The supplied Wireless Remote Commander does not function.


• Set [REMOTE CONTROL] to [ON] (p. 80).
• Remove any obstructions between the Wireless Remote Commander and the remote sensor
of the camcorder.
• Keep strong light sources, such as sunlight or overhead lighting, away from the remote
sensor, otherwise the Wireless Remote Commander may not function properly.
• Insert a fresh battery in the compartment with its +/– terminals matching those of the
compartment (p. 113).

• Set the handle zoom switch to FIX or VAR (p. 29).

The access lamp remains lit even after recording was stopped.
• Your camcorder is recording the scene you have just shot on the memory card.

The imaging field looks different.


• The imaging field may look different depending on the condition of your camcorder. This is
not a malfunction.

The actual recording time for movies is less than the expected recording time
of the memory card.
• Depending on the recording conditions, the time available for recording may be shorter, for
example when recording a fast moving object, etc. (p. 95).

The camcorder does not keep the setting changes.


• Some menu items return to the default setting when the power is turned off (p. 67).
• The LCD backlight setting and the EXPANDED FOCUS setting are not stored.
• You disconnected the power sources when the POWER switch was set to ON. Before
disconnecting the battery or the AC Adaptor, set the POWER switch to OFF and make sure
that the access lamp is turned off.

There is a time difference between the point when the record button is pressed
and the point that the recording movie is started or stopped actually.
• On your camcorder, there may be a slight time difference between the point where you press
the record button and the actual point that recording movie starts/stops. This is not a
malfunction.

La videocámara graba películas en las tarjetas de memoria. Proceda de la siguiente forma para
grabar películas.
• Esta videocámara puede grabar películas con calidad de imagen de alta definición (HD) o calidad de
imagen de definición estándar (SD). El ajuste predeterminado de fábrica es calidad de imagen de alta
definición (HD) ([FORM.GRAB.], pág. 130).

• Cuando el indicador de acceso está encendido o parpadeando de color rojo, la videocámara está
escribiendo datos en la tarjeta de memoria. No sacuda ni golpee la videocámara y no retire el adaptador de
alimentación de ca ni la batería.
• La videocámara puede grabar películas durante 13 h aproximadamente.
• Si un archivo de película excede los 2 GB durante la grabación, la videocámara divide el archivo y crea un
nuevo archivo automáticamente.
• Los ajustes de menú, los ajustes de PICTURE PROFILE y los ajustes realizados con el interruptor AUTO/
MANUAL se almacenan en la videocámara cuando ajusta el interruptor POWER en la posición OFF. El

LIMITED WARRANTY (US Only)

Sony Electronics Inc. ("Sony") warrants this product against defects in material or workmanship forthe time periods
and as set forth below. Pursuant to this Limited Warranty, Sony will, at its option, (i) repair the product using new or
refurbished parts or (ii) replace the product with a new or refurbished product. For purposes ofthis Limited Warranty,
"refurbished" means a product or part that has been returned to its original specifications. In the event of a defect,
these are your exclusive remedies.

Labor: For a period of ninety days from the original date of purchase ofthe product ("Labor Warranty"), Sony will, at
its option, repair or replace with new or refurbished product, product determined to be defective. If Sony elects to
replace the product after this Labor Warranty has expired but while the Parts Warranty below is still in effect, it will do
so for the applicable labor charge.
Parts: For a period of one yearfrom the original date of purchase of product ("Parts Warranty"), Sony will supply new
or refurbished replacement parts in exchange for parts determined to be defective.
This Limited Warranty covers only the hardware components packaged with the Product. It does not cover technical
assistance for hardware or software usage and it does not cover any software products whether or not contained in
the Product; any such software is provided" AS IS" unless expressly provided for in any enclosed software Limited
Warranty. Please referto the End User License Agreements included with the Product for your rights and obligations
with respect to the software.
Instructions: To obtain warranty service, you must deliverthe product, freight prepaid, in either its original packaging
or packaging affording an equal degree of protection to the Sony authorized service facility specified. It is your
responsibility to backup any data, software or other materials you may have stored or preserved on your unit. It is
likely that such data, software, or other materials will be lost or reformatted during service and Sony will not be
responsible for any such damage or loss. A dated purchase receipt is required. For specific instructions on how to

Repair I Replacement Warranty: This Limited Warranty shall apply to any repair, replacement part or replacement
product for the remainder of the original Limited Warranty period or for ninety (90) days, whichever is longer. Any
parts or product replaced under this Limited Warranty will become the property of Sony.
This Limited Warranty only covers product issues caused by defects in material or workmanship during ordinary
use; it does not cover product issues caused by any other reason, including but not limited to acts of God, misuse,
limitations of technology, or modification of orto any part of the Sony product. This Limited Warranty does not cover
Sony products sold AS IS or WITH ALL FAULTS or consumables (such as fuses or batteries). This Limited Warranty
is invalid if the factory-applied serial number has been altered or removed from the product. This Limited Warranty
is valid only in the United States.
LIMITATION ON DAMAGES: SONY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES
FOR BREACH OF ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY ON THIS PRODUCT.
DURATION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES: EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT PROHIBITED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ANY IMPLIED
WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE ON THIS PRODUCT IS LIMITED IN
DURATION TO THE DURATION OF THIS WARRANTY.
Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, or allow limitations on
how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you. This Limited
Warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may have other rights which vary from state to state.
