Explaining Microsoft Active Directory

You will often find that large

organizations have integrated their
Sitecore solution with Microsoft Active
Directory (AD). This means that all
users, groups and authentications are
managed centrally in Windows domain
and not in Sitecore. Because your login
and password are tied to your Windows
account, you will need to change your
password on your Windows machine or
talk to your IT admin.

Control Panel.
Review Questions

Q1: Why doesn't the content author have access to the same applications as the
marketer?
A1: The access rights for the individual user will control the applications that are
available to the user. The content author has fewer access rights than the marketer
because the marketer also needs access to Experience Analytics.

Q2: How do you access the log in screen for Sitecore?

A2: By appending /sitecore on the base URL.

Q3: Which application is used for updating regional and language preferences?
A3: The Control Panel.

Review Questions

Q4: How do you change your password in Sitecore?

A4: Log in to Sitecore/Control Panel/My Settings/Change Password.

Q5: Why are you unable to change your password in Sitecore if Active Directory is in use?
A5: If Active Directory is enabled then your password is controlled by your IT department
and not Sitecore.

Q6: How does a business user, designer, marketer or developer access the Sitecore user
interfaces?
A6: The user interfaces are browser based. Simply append /sitecore to the website URL,
provide your security credentials to access the Launchpad and then select the user
interface you wish to use.
